Meh, this won’t be popular but I still yet to see the hype, excitement of what he does.

I hope we don’t break the bank to keep him.
Sort of reminds me of the hype Wilton had, gunna be a star, play for NSW (he still may) but after 6 seasons since making his debut & over a 100 FG in there would have to be a few injuries with edge forwards for him to get a look in for NSW.

I spoke about promoting McCulloch to spend 2026 with the Jets at NSW Cup level with a view to him featuring in first grade in 2027 post-Cam etc, a few months ago.
While Jesse Colquhoun finished 2025 in fine form after Cam went down, I still think the club will likely look to promote McCulloch in the long term and likely see both Jesse and Cam as players who can be let go as a result.
Same, him and fa'atili would feature 2026 off the bench when top grade forward stock run low.

Keep Calquhoun though if we can, still developing in top grade and has shown good signs aswell as versatility. As much as i like cam he could be moved on after latest long term injury. Kaufusi can also be let go next season nov 1 if he's not going another level.

Next year i would still have toby start at lock, 3 props to start game then bring on impact players with Calquhoun and Sifa in the middle to speed things up or ball play. Have McCulloch or Fa'atili debut off bench next year when needed, and by 2027 2028 become regulars if they show potential and can handle top grade next year.

Yep not happening. Fitz loves him.
I’d be inclined to agree but I think the resolve of the Club will be tested by what the likes of JC and Burns will be offered elsewhere.
Both are currently playing for substantial unders and have proven their worth in terms of an upgraded deal. Whether the Sharks will enter a bidding war, when/if it comes to that, is another matter IMO.

I'd be shocked if Sam doesn't spend majority of next year in NSW Cup. Pretty certain he's aged out of flegg now.

Long-term Colquhoun ends up at prop for me, no reason not to keep both.
There is certainly hope that JC can be retained but I personally don’t think the Sharks will pay what the likes of say, the Bears will be able to offer him.
I think, looking at the club’s attitude towards the likes of Katoa, the Sharks are quite prepared to let players leave if they believe they have a replacement coming through the system which, in Katoa’s case, the club do in Sam Stonestreet. Sam will be on a fraction of what Katoa is currently on so it makes sense.
Letting Ramien go and bringing Gabrael through, who, again, will be on a fraction of the amount Ramien is also makes a great deal of business sense.
Letting those two go will free up some cap space but time will tell if the club use that to upgrade the likes of JC and Burns or opt to utilise it on say, landing an elite fullback etc.

JC is only just establishing a starting role and everyone knows how much Fitz loves and rates him. I can't see him taking the risk of moving cross country to a new team that could struggle unless they land some big names. Especially after his false starts to his career.

I think he'll resign shortly.

Maybe we won’t pay what the Bears offer but given we have Cam, Toby and Uele all likely leaving probably in the next 1-2 , maybe Toby stays we need to make sure we have a transition plan for our middles

So it’s important we keep him

Manly premiership winner Daly Cherry-Evans has officially joined the Sydney Roosters for the 2026 NRL season.

After months of speculation, the Roosters confirmed on Friday morning the 36-year-old Cherry-Evans will be playing at Bondi next season.

Cherry-Evans played 352 games and spent 15 seasons at Manly, including winning a title in his maiden 2011 season, but failed to reach a new agreement earlier this year.

The Roosters deal is reportedly worth about $500,000 with an option in the halfback’s favour for 2027.

I hope JC signs, but I completely understand the Bears wanting him. He is the goods.

Honestly the bears could look at BHU for two years off the bench and Cam McInnes they both make a lot of sense for an establishing club and won't break the bank.

thats all true and well replacing an established players salarys with a juniors contract, but that cap space will only last a year. with them playing full time first grade and being as good/better than their predecessor, they aint gunna play for minimum wage for very long.

i think your stating the obvious in what the club already has in plan with successors, they're just picking their time to utilise it

Saying ‘a fraction’ is technically true but very broad. It’s not like they are coming in on 1/10th the wage.
Especially Stonestreet we just kept for a year to Katoa - would be cheaper but not immensely.

Still frees up cap told course, I just read ‘a fraction’ as sounding like the difference would be much bigger than it is haha

Not a player but Jack Gould has left and has gone to Storm as Female Pathways Coach

Speaking on SEN, Carayannis believes the Sharks should try to land Papenhuyzen.
Again, if this is a deal that can be struck, even just as a stopgap en route to rugby for Papenhuyzen, I’d be very much in favour.
There would have to be quite a bit of off-season ‘roster management’ for this to be any sort of chance, though.

I don't want him, not for the coin he'd want.

I know he had a good season stats wise, and a good Grand Final, but I can’t be the only one that felt he looked a bit……slower and not as sharp in the late season. Maybe he had a niggle I dont know. I just feel like it would be an insane risk to sign him on anywhere near the money he’d demand. Especially since we’d have to do some major salary cap gymnastics to try to fit him in.

I mean we could move a few players on, but other teams would know we’d be desperate, so we’d be eating a large chunk of those contracts in our cap to send players to other clubs, if you start doing that, you start ending up like Parra from a few years ago. One of the reasons our squad has been in good shape over the past few years is because we’re not carrying those portion of contracts to move players on, none of the top teams have those.

Plus you’d also have to replace the players in the squad that you moved on, even minimum wage players aren’t that cheap.

Not worth the risk for mine.

Which should mean absolutely nothing to us, Carayannis is a clown
