I get what you're saying but It's a train & trial. No guarantee he even gets offered a deal after the 8-10 weeks. If he does though, it could mean that our coaching staff have identified that this guy can get back to where he once was.

Also, seeing how he started his career - he is a hell of lot more talented than Puru/Pollard or Ford. If Schuster finds his best form again, he is an origin caliber type player. Not sure we can say the same on the other 3.

Puru is also a similar age also to Schuster and is yet to even make his debut.

On another note though, I would be pushing for him to not be a half and have him playing in the back row on an edge. Similar to how Wade used to play.

What if he doesn't find any form, but Pollard gets pissed off, leaves and goes on to play 200 games for someone else... or Puru leaves and then Tricky rolls and ankle the next game?

There is risk. You are saying you accept the risk. I'm saying the club might not.

Sounds like if he was willing to spend 6 months playing on the edge in NSW Cup there would be a lot of teams chasing him.

It's a T & T, there would be no guarantee he even gets a game if he doesn't put the training in during the off season.

I think you're getting a bit far ahead of yourself.

For the pre-season? Sure. Sign everyone you can get.

I thought Gumby was saying grab him now and pop him on the Jets.

T&T doesn't mean "pre-season". Ford, Fa'atili, McCullough et al are all currently T&T players.

If he trains his arse off and shows he's hungry, yep absolutely, whack him in the Jets.

If another club is willing to promise him something, I wouldn't want us to match that.
 
I'd whack him on the left edge/bench for the Jets and say if he wants the 5/8 spot he needs to earn it.

Yeah. I just misunderstood. I thought it was for now rather than for pre-season. Have listened to the actual interview now so my mistake.
