Official Signings, Transfers & Recruitment Discussion 2026

It really wouldn't be wasting much money. He obviously has talent, needs an attitude realignment.

Uncle Wayne is obviously great but it doesn't mean he has a 100% track record of turning people around.

I definitely wouldn't be offering him a proper contract but there is absolutely nothing to lose with a T&T deal, there is only upside for us.

Its clear he doesn’t give two shits about being a first grade footballer. Some guys who have the talent simply don’t have the mental fortitude for it. I’d rather use the roster spot on a guy who actually cares and can be developed. Again, waste of money and time imo.

Has certainly been the case to date, I'm willing to take a (tiny) punt on the fact he's turned himself around. There is no downside imo.

If he wanted to come and do the end of year start of preseason on the base T&T wage to show where he is at physically and work hard, I'd be fine with that. Up to him to win an extension through to end of preseason, and then onwards

I don't think I've seen anything recent that says it is clear he doesn't give two shits about being a first grade footballer, but I also didn't watch the interview, so if that is clear then I guess don't worry about even a T&T

Yeah he pretty clearly needed to hit rock bottom. Whether he can use that to actually apply himself and forge a career remains to be seen. But a minimum wage or train and trial deal is no risk with lots of potential upside.

Yep. Unless they jag a few decent players it's hard seeing them win even one game next year. Terrible team.

This is who is left currently without attempting to sign a contracted player.

From this list - I would be aiming to sign the following players:

Jesse Arthurs (backline depth)
Billy Walters (hooker)
Josh Pappali (bench middle) a true leader of the game which every squad needs.
Kurt Mann (utility) covers multiple positions and adds good experience
Jayden Berrell (hooker depth)
Braden Uele (middle depth)
Sione Katoa (wing)
Trai Fuller (fullback)
Sam Verrills (hooker)
Shawn Blore (backrow)
Te Maire Martin (halves depth)
Murray Taulagi (wing) origin player
Jack Cole (halves depth)
Kelma Tualagi (backrow)
Kade Dykes (backline depth)
Kurt Capewell (backline) origin player

It's probably too late. PNG was always going to complicate things and a great start by them has borderline doomed the Bears to insignificance.
Bears maybe should have been given ESL style one or two marquee player allowance, count as 1m on cap regardless of what you pay them, for say, first 5 years.
But having a 'more exciting' team start the very next year, with tax incentives for players, is a massive hurdle.

Bears should try get Humphreys, Walters, Fuller to give them some contest for the spine. If missing either of first two, get Verrills.
There's other names available who still strictly improve the squad, like Taulagi probably the main one, but none that blow you away.

It's fine

Motor Vehicle Allowance

A maximum amount of five motor vehicles may be provided to players in the Top 30 outside of the salary cap (valued at $20,000 each).
Luai getting 2 jet skis, a banana boat. a Hummer and a Cessna?

Its also crazy that two teams are starting within 12 months of each other. Should be at least 3 years to give the new club a chance.

100% agree. NRL has royally ****ed this up. Bears won't survive 4 years imo.
