nah no chance you'll see a bloke who hasnt played since round 2 being thrown straight into finals footy. he'll have to wait till next year unfortunately to get his shot. which is a shame because if he was fit, it would add another dimension to our attack with him punching the fringes. but not to be

Will have to be careful with this one, for all money Cronulla should be able to do away with the Raiders no worries yet come September anything can happen. Canberra are seriously depleted and though their form has been somethimng to behold the last 4 weeks the truth is it's been against teams that have been well off the competition standard. Yet with all the talk now being not about if Cronulla can win this but rather on by how much Cronulla can win this by you get the feeling Canberra will come out strong in this one.
Canberra will know that the lack of depth in their roster will make it hard if they get into an arm wrestle with the Sharks and will be looking to hopefully mount a lead of 12 - 18 before the Sharks wake up. If they can keep Cronulla on the back foot in the opening 20 they will believe they are capable of doing so. Sharks on the other hand will look to bash the Canberra pack and control the ruck early on in an attempt to stifle any creative attacking play from Tongue and Campesee. If the Sharks control the ball early on expect to the see the depleted canberra defensive line fold... My tip big first week win for the Sharks ultimately winning the game 34 - 8.

I hope that ricky sticks with the same lineup that beat the cowboys, with one exception start norrie, drop peek out of the 17 and bring millington onto the bench. Peek seemed to struggle to contain the big cowboys forwards.
It would be good to see williams get a start on the bench but i feel the game is too important to risk his lack of match fitness.

having a tossload of fast agile blokes running around is all well and good but it wont do them much good when they cant get out of their 40 because of our kick chase and punishing defense
and lets see those fast agile blokes (tongue not included) effectively stop gallen, douglas, anderson, snowden and ross and then you have nutley who is easy to stop but it looks like it hurts everytime (when we first signed nutley this season it was usually him coming out worse from his suicide battering ram runs but as the season has progressed thats been reversing a bit, he used to end up getting dominated in tackles a fair bit but not so much lately)

the raiders just dont have the defence to cope with our defence and powerful (HARDWORKING) forwards. first 20 and last 10 they will rack up probably 3 tries (they score first in most of their games), but in the other 50 minutes we will score probably around 28 points through tries and a penalty or two. most of our tries will come in minutes 20-50. probably give us another try if campeses injury flairs up (or tongues is taken out by misi!)

Thats the way to go i hope he doesnt have
8 Ross
9 De gois
10 Peek
11 Doug
12 Fraser
13 Gallen
that gives us 3 front rowers starting and if he picks the same bench of
14 Nuts
15 Swowden
16 Norrie
17 Seu
That gives us 6 front rowers in the 17 and that doesnt give us any room to move if we get injuries during the game millo gives us some options

This is a real danger game. I cannot think of any other team at the moment, besides Melbourne, that has the capacity to pile on points like the Raiders. If they muscle up in defence we will be in a real battle. It is well known that the Raiders do not play well away from home. But this is semi final football and even though we are on our own turf we cannot take this game lightly and think we can win by 20 points or more.

Ricky Stuart has come up almost the perfect game plan each week during 2008 and except for the Manly game at Shark Park they have stuck to it week after week and this is the reason we are at the top of the ladder. I am so proud that even though we did not win the minor premiership, we finised on equal points with Many and Melbourne which considering our playing roster it is a phenomenal effort. Still it must be remembered that Melbourne lost three games during the season fielding a near reserve grade side while the Origin season was on. If they had their best field on the side for these games then they would have won the minor premiership by six points.

But, I digress....

Back to the Raiders game....

Firstly, to all those misguided Sharks Forever fans, Reece Williams will not take any part in this finals series unless we suffer a few major injuries. The one thing I would like to see the Sharks improve above anything else is ball control. Who are the main culprits when it comes to attacks of dropsy? Sorry to say our fearless leader is the worst of the lot. I've noticed even more over the past month or so that Gal's hands have started to let him down again, so he must ensure he does nothing stupid and doesn't try to push that impossible pass. Poms is another one that amazes me how he loses the ball - a few times he had done so without a hand being laid on him! I thought the old man Danny Nutley had some problems early on with the play the ball, he lost the ball several times in early games, however he seems to have fixed that for now.

If we can hold the ball and defend like our lives depend on it the rest will take care of itself....

Go boys, and may the force be with you....

best attack vs best defence

thrilling encounter

misi, simmo, cov and pom will have to muscle up in defence because thats where they will try to beat us, on the fringes

williams would be good to look at on paper, but on the field would be very rusty

kimmorleys bomb to covell will be crucial we can score plenty of points there

bulldogs put 30 on em, which gives us plenty of hope in attack, and if our defence can stand up as it has done all year, we willbe fine

our last game against the raiders was 34-22, which indicates they can score points, so wel have to be on the ball in attack

ill miss the game cuz ill be at the tri nations:( updates will be flying thick and fast on my phone

Canberra has what it takes to win league fans back

IT may be a touch melodramatic to suggest the immediate future of league hangs on the result of Saturday's final between Canberra and Cronulla.
But given the playing style of successful sides is often adopted by the chasing pack, you'd love to see the Raiders have a good finals series.

The approach of Canberra and Cronulla is at polar opposites.

As their final-round 52-34 win over the Bulldogs showed, defence is not a huge priority for the Raiders. They like to use the ball and back themselves to outscore the opposition.

The Cronulla Sharks come from a different school. Under the guidance of coach Ricky Stuart, they have been honed into a battle-hardened outfit programmed to win at any cost.

They are one of the best defensive teams in the c ompetition but they struggle in attack, a point highlighted by the fact they have scored far less tries than the other seven finalists.

I am not being critical of Stuart in any way. After all you can only play the hand you're dealt. Stuart has looked at the make-up of his squad and decided to play a style that suits their strengths.

Cronulla fans would hardly be complaining. It is always better to win ugly than lose pretty. But I know which team I'd rather watch, and they wear lime green.

At a time when rugby league crowds, or more precisely the lack of them, outside of Queensland is becoming an issue, it is important the game has teams like the Canberra Raiders that are prepared to put on a show.

Which style is best suited to finals football? Well history would suggest the Sharks are in the box seat. But the Raiders are a chance if the referee cracks down in the ruck area.

In many ways Cronulla has followed Melbourne's lead by becoming one of the best spoiling teams in the competition. But if the referee keeps the teams apart and allows Canberra to build some momentum, a boilover could be on the cards.

It is difficult to see too many other upsets in the first week of the finals.

Brisbane is building nicely and I think the Roosters in the first week is a great draw. In my time with the Broncos we always seemed to do well against the Chooks and there were some very good signs in Brisbane's final-round tune-up against Newcastle.

I have been openly critical of the Brisbane forwards this season, but I have seen some real energy from Ben Hannant and Joel Clinton in recent weeks. If they can continue to build on their efforts, the Broncos will be a force to be reckoned with.

In the other games, I think Manly, with Jamie Lyon back and playing well, will be too good for St George Illawarra, while the Storm should have too many guns for the Warriors.

I add a note of caution there however. If there is one team that has shown in recent seasons it does not fear the Storm, it is the Warriors. I think most of the top four would be glad to be giving the physical Kiwis a wide berth in the opening week.

Sharks fans walk the line

EVEN before they knew who they were playing, Cronulla Sharks supporters lined up for finals tickets early Sunday morning at the Sharks ticketing office at Toyota Stadium.

Fans who braved Saturday night's wet and windy conditions to see the Sharks cement third position with a 28-22 win over the North Queensland Cowboys, lined up in sunshine for seats for Saturday night's (6.30pm) home semi final, against Canberra.

The Raiders jumped over St George Illawarra to grab sixth spot, by beating the Bulldogs by 18 points, forcing the Dragons into a sudden-death showdown with second-placed Manly Sea Eagles at Brookvale at 8.30pm on Saturday night.

There isnt to much to be said that we dont know, raiders are going to come out of the gates like a bat out of hell. If we can weather this first 15-20 mins we should be ok. I worry about this game, but not us much as if we played the GOONS. The raiders have a big injury toll and have let in a few points the last couple of weeks.

I can see the raiders leading at half time depending if they have the breeze at their backs. But the sharks will prove to much for them over the full 80 mins.

All in all this is what our season has lead to, we have been playing semi-final footy all year, bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!:drunk
