Cheers.

Glad we won but that's ordinary from them. I really want an expansion to Perth, I hope they get better and build a stronger junior base.

They are the punching bag of the comp. They didn’t win a game last season and gave up 50+ in about half their games.

Get smashed every game, every year. Don’t think they’ve ever won in like 3 or 4 years.

Rugby League is too far down the pecking order.
Not gunna get an influx of juniors for no reason, an NRL team would help a lot

I remember WA footy going well with a plan to build from ground up and have sustainable lower grade sides before launching a bid for an NRL license. Then it seemed like NRL put expansion way down the list and WARL gone backwards.

You think they need to get an NRL side now and kind of build from the top? A WA NRL side will light up the pathway for young WA footy players?

That fancy pants new stadium sold out an Origin match in like 2 weeks a year in advance. Games at NIB (?) in recent years were well attended and I think a Kangaroos game there did well too not too long ago.

Union is begging for someone to dig up, they're struggling big time and Perth got the sharp end of their last shake up. With Twiggy's latest set backs and his rebel comp being delayed (which he only dreamed up so Western Force had somewhere to play) RL should make a move. We've been "looking into it and weighing up our options in consultation with our broadcast and many other partners" for too long, back to the Dave Gallop days.

I think they're happy to die wondering.

Lovely to say build from the ground up but if you say ‘Rugby League’ here half the people say ‘which one do the Wallabies play?’ and that’s about the extent of their knowledge across both codes!

Massive percentage of kids would play Aussie Rules or Soccer and not many people would switch over from either of those.

There’s been a few new junior clubs started recently in population growth areas but seniors it’s pretty stagnated. An NRL club could help retain these new juniors and help more of them stick around in their teens, plus attract some more good athletes who can see a pathway.

How would you do it though?

Add them and have 17 teams, add two and have 18 teams or relocate a team to keep the comp at 16?

Pretty tough questions!

Any more teams spreads the talent pool out further, which is a problem, but fixtures are already such a mess with each team playing others sometimes once, sometimes twice.

The only way to properly fix the fixtures without drastically increasing/decreasing season length is conferences. Would allow 18 teams pretty easily, or 16. (ie play everyone in your conference twice and other conference once = 25 or 22 reg season games).

To keep the talent pool though you need to either relocate or cut & replace a team. Eventually the new markets may help increase talent pool ongoing.

A 16 team conference could have two NSW teams cut for 2 of Perth/Brisbane/New Zealand, or conferences could be more randomised

Yeah, good question.

Obvious answer is Sharks relocate to Perth. Been happening on and off for 12 years.

Jokes aside, I'm not sure. Not a fan of 17 teams and don't believe we'll see a relocation any time soon. A culling of a team even less likely.

I guess that leaves introducing a Perth side and another. I'd think Brisbane or NZ 2.

I don't know how viable any of those 3 suggestions are. I also don't know how fair dinkum any of those potential franchises would be while the NRL seems to be having no interest in expansion. I think the NRL needs to either shut the door on expansion until "whatever" or come up with a structure those vying for a license can work to.

Our BG Ball team (8th) are playing the Bulldogs (5th) in a week 1 elimination final today.

The two teams didn’t meet in the regular season but the Bulldogs should be heavy favourites. Sharks only got in due to a quirk in the draw (the team tied with them for 8th actually won more games but did not have a bye).

Lineup is:

1. Hayden Sutton
2. Sam Stonestreet
22. Jordan Samrani
4. Sidney Noppen
5. Marco Talagi
6. Kyle Pickering
7. Kade Dykes
8. Thomas Giles
9. Thomas Demeio
16. Zane Jegers
11. Kai Parker
12. Thomas Rodwell
13. Damon Smith
-
15. Billy Burke
10. Jesse Colquhoun
17. Kitione Kautoga
18. Blake Hosking
-
Veikoso, Moaga and Fuz were all named in the 20 man squad but missed out

... ands that’s all she wrote for the SG Ball team for 2019. Got a touch up from the Doggies in the elimination semi.

Was to be expected - we had a lot of 2002 (age 17) players.

The most likely players to get a run with the 20’s would be Pickering or Demeio. Most of the older players are middle forwards or outside backs, and the 20’s has those in spades

Not a good day for the boys both the SG ball and Harold Matt’s lost and are both out.
The Tarsha Gale girls won against panthers.

An update on a few of the 18's:

Jesse Colquhoun is playing with Como 20's
George Sukanaivalu is playing reserve grade for Gymea

The local 18's comp starts this weekend.

Damon Smith was named the Sharks 2019 SG Ball player of the year, and the Junior Rep player of the year.
