Sharks/Footy PODCAST Thread

Thread Info
Latest Kenty podcast is really good. He’s not on it.

It’s actually just an interview with Sean O’Sullivan. Some intersections stuff around coaching, training, preparing for games etc.

The whole thing is interesting but the best bits are the first 10-11 minutes.

Just watched Face to Face with ET Part 2 last night. What a legend

Showed highlights of his origin and test career. That we my favourite era for rep footy.

For those too young to know ET - we had a genuine super star centre who was equally good on the wing and fullback.

To try to compare to the moderen era, I reckon he was a combination of say the Hammer (raw pace) in attack and maybe Steve Crichton (at his best) in defence.

ET was just a great player. I loved watching him as a kid. The way he would score tries with those long locks flowing. He was a big reason I became a Shark.

Blocked that germ on everything

Find it a bit odd Austin as host asks questions as if he'd never played the game. He's more experienced than his co-host.

It's often said that ET became a great defensive centre later in his career but watching some earlier games of his (he had played wing, fullback and centre) and listening to the commentators views on him early career it seems he was always a good defensive player.

Having great speed helped him in this regard I would say but the bloke knew how to tackle and position himself even when he was younger. He could read the play.

Yeah I think people forget how good he was, he wasn't just all speed. Was unfairly called a pretty boy a lot during his career but anyone who watched him knows he always put his body on the line.

As someone who has also been blessed with astonishing good looks, I feel his pain.

Yeah I think players just get branded with reputations they can't shake. I never saw ET play in his early years but I'd be shocked if a teenager playing against men didn't miss a few tackles he'd want back. He had 100 games to his name around his 21st birthday and was solid for next 15 years.

We should start a union.
