Sharks/Footy PODCAST Thread

Is Clinton Maynard in this place?

He reminds me of some of you pessimistic bastards.

You could literally sit down every season and come up with a reason why this team, or that team will finish higher than us.

I chose to think about why can finish higher than most teams.

Yeah he’s an absolute punish to listen too.

Would complain about winning the lotto.

I couldn’t finish listening to the last episode but his reasoning why we won’t make 4 didn’t make any sense when he was choosing other teams

He said himself he’s a pessimist - he’s not wrong

****ed if I know how he has a gig on the radio

Agreed. Plenty more reasons to be pessimistic about the dogs this year than us and he had them top 4.

He was definitely on here or rleague.com or LU many many years ago (can’t remember which). At the time he was just a 2UE reporter.

I’ve never minded him. He always plugged the Sharks, worked hard for where he’s got. I agree re the odd teams he chose for the top 4, but I agree with his general sentiment that it won’t be easy to get in the top 4. He was also right last year about Vegas. I reckon I’d sound like him if I had to actually have a firm opinion on our chances!

Yeah there's no way top 4 is a shoe in. But with an easier draw in both travel and opposition, plus the most settled squad and a bit of a chip on our shoulder, we are as much chance as anyone. Melbourne, Penrith, Roosters and Broncos included.

Do any of you listen to the post-game/debrief pods? I'll occasionally throw one on as I'm keen for more shark talk, but I almost always regret it. They are much, much worse than all the other content, with generally the same people dialing in and repeating the same talking points.

I had a couple of long drives yesterday, so I enjoyed having them.

I always cringe a bit at talkback callers, but I actually thought both episodes were good quality compared to some last year.

Sam kept the calls a bit shorter and on topic. That Lucius from Vic Supporters club was good on Sharkcast. Same with Lyn on ET Stand.

The only thing I found a bit grating was the number of mentions of them being in the ET Upper and being in the dressing sheds after the game etc (particularly the brother who is barely a Sharks supporter!). But they do mostly deserve it, so that's just a minor gripe :p

I listen to and like them. Yeah, they are not as polished as other shows but I can only imagine how difficult a live stream post game would be to organise.

In terms of the same people going on the show - there is only one way to change that...

Fair points, I guess they wouldn't do them if people weren't interested.

I did notice the calls being a bit shorter, which certainly helps. And I agree it would be hard to organise it and control it live.

When can we look forward to your appearance, Pez?

I also like the debrief episodes as no one else in my household really care about the footy and dont understand when I'm pissed off after a game.

I should go on one day. Maybe after a loss - so see you next year!

I'd probably delay the talkback callers to a bit later in the episode. One cringe call is enough for me to switch off, whereas I can listen to Sam for ages.

But it does at least capture the vitality of the game days having different excited or angry callers, and a bit messy.

Or even just segment it to one part of the pod. It seems to vary based on who calls in when, which isn't unreasonable. Ideally having a regular host scheduled to call in and chat would help a lot I feel.

I listen to the debriefs and I generally like them especially Sam on Sharkcast. Got to meet him yesterday, he must have been shaking in his boots seeing this big old guy walking towards him but once I said who I was, he knew me.

I don't mind the ET stand debrief and I like it even more if Boldo is not on there. I can't fault his passion and his love for the Sharks but he's just all over the place sometimes and he continually talks over the top of others.

I’m the opposite on ET Stand, I find it a bit dry if he’s not there
