I thought a Newtown thread might be handy... if nothing else as a measure of depth. Just a guess at the moment but will keep an eye on things ...

Bold = Sharks player
Italics = U20 eligible

Anticipated Lineup

1. Higgins
2. Katoa / Lee / Gray (one will play NRL)
3. Aufaga-Toomaga
4. Ramien
5. Katoa / Lee / Gray
6. J.J. Wiliams
7. Flanagan
8. Dillon
9. B. Marschke
10. Uele or Ava (one will play NRL)
11. Paulo
12. J. Williams
13. Magoulias
-
Bench/extras

Vasquez, Lolo, M. Houma, Tuwhanga. King, Ilett, Faalua (prop)
Nikora, Sorensen, McDonogh, Moraitis (back row)
J. Marschke (half)
Tuilagi, J. Topai-Aveai, Evans, Rennie, Kennedy (Outside back)

**

*Blayke Brailey, Isaac Lumelume, Cruz Topai-Aveai and Josh Carr were all left out of this list because they are U20 eligible. They may play up in NSW cup but for now let's assume they play U20.

I thought I read last year Newtown wanted to walk away from our partnership?

Here is a list of players trialing for Newtown (not including the guys above in the OP who are contracted already). I've bolded a few former Sharks players

Charlton Schaafhausen (Western Suburbs), Kieran Vale, Liam Christensen (Victorian Rugby League), Adrian Hangana (Auburn Warriors), George Tsikrikas (Canterbury-Bankstown), Ben Mathiou (NQ Cowboys under 20’s and Illawarra Collegians), Jackson Garlick (Glebe-Burwood), Royce Tout (Gundagai Tigers and Wests Tigers under 20’s), Dominic Timoteo (South Sydney under 20’s), Jesse Maxwell-Offen (Wentworthville), Maverick Tweedie (Thirlmere), Tyla Tamou, Latrell Robinson (North Sydney), Ray Lesoa (Penrith and Blacktown Workers), Nei Walters, Jimmy Morgan (UK), Zach Bouzounis (Sydney Roosters under 20’s), Penani Manumalealii, Zachary Faulkner (Cronulla Sharks under 20’s), Ioane Ioaane (New Lynn, Auckland), Isaac Prokopiou (Berkeley Vale, Central Coast), Jordan Bowles (Illawarra Collegians), Matthew Jurd (St George-Illawarra under 20’s and Illawarra ISP NSW) , Louis Meehan (Sydney Roosters), Matt Messan, John-Paul Nakad (Cronulla Sharks under 20’s).

Thanks for the List Burgess-Would love to see the guys from the VRL make it, questionable pathways from the Storm.

I don't think the Storm gives two hoots about developing players from the VRL. Most of their players come from Brisbane and New Zealand, with the odd Qld country boy thrown in and a few NSW-born kids they poached once they were Australian schoolboys.

I was to diplomatic to state, but you have nailed it. Under 18s and 20s almost all out of QLD minimal "local"content I understand

Think your squad is pretty close to the mark.

The outside backs look competitive and i feel flanno would like some of the U20s playing up on open grade to give them some more exposure as back ups for the year and 2019.

I would like to see newtown start with Kennedy at the back Lumelume in the centre.

Big wrap on both of them and the sooner they can start playing open age the better for their improvement.

Hopefully newtown go better than last year... well that cant be too hard :)

Maverick Tweedie is a name I want in the NRL.

Also Ioane Ioaane, preferably before Rabs retires/dies in the box.

Hodko signing probably means JJ Williams to the bench for the Jets. Bench hooker I am guessing.

..: or Flanagan back to 20’s... or Hodko in firstsz

Nah I think we’ll see Flanno/Hodko starting for Newtown. Not a bad combo for reserve grade.

I’m guessing Blake Brailey’s still playing 20’s then if that’s the case?

I think teams will still keep most of their young guys in 20's system. It's still going to be an elite youth comp - 11 teams from NSW plus the Warriors. For the Sharks I think we can assume Flanagan plays up in NSW Cup, but the other guys I listed who are still eligible will most-likely stay in 20's for at least the start of the year. Lumelume wasn't listed in the U20 squad though so I'm guessing he plays NSW Cup too.

also ... from the list of trial players so far the Jets have signed Matthew Jurd to a contract. He's a middle forward (prop/lock).

Once they finalise their lineup I'll take the Newtown guys out of the Sharks signings thread and keep the details in here.
