Isnt Sorenson more of a backrower? Thought he'd be more likely to get a run on an edge.

Here is the status of the Newtown lineup. I'd expect Flano wants to take 18 or 19 guys to Townsville with him and I reckon a couple of those U20 guys might stay down .. so the actual squad for round 1 is anyone's guess at this stage. Looks like Moraitis might be the captain.

U20 Eligible Sharks Players
Blayke Brailey, Isaac Lumelume, Cruz Topai-Aveai, Josh Carr

Guys who saw plenty of trial action but haven't been confirmed as signed by Newtown
Latrell Robinson, Addison Demetriou, Lachlan Stein, Penani Manumalealii

Other trialing players (status to be confirmed)
Royce Tout, Keiran Vale, Ozzy Tuwhangai, Billy Tsikrikas, George Tsikrikas, Jordan Bowles, Charlton Schaafhausen, Zach Bouzounis, Liam Christensen , Adrian Hangana, Ben Mathiou , Dominic Timoteo, Jesse Maxwell-Offen, Maverick Tweedie, Tyla Tamou,, Ray Lesoa, Nei Walters, Jimmy Morgan, Zachary Faulkner, Ioane Ioaane, Isaac Prokopiou,Louis Meehan, Matt Messan, John-Paul Nakad

Surely they can do better than Moraitis as captain.

Then again he's ZERO chance of playing first grade so they know the Captain will always be available if fit.

He attended the launch with all of the other captains but they didn't actually say that he has the gig. To be honest I can't see anyone better on that list who is likely to be with Newtown all year. Most of those guys are either very young, new to the team, or likely to be up in the NRL for much of the season.

I guess the main thing to take from this is that Kurt Dillon is NOT the captain - which probably means he is more likely to get a look in for the NRL team.

Round 1 Newtown Team - as named. Subject to change once the players drop off the 21 man NRL team.

1 William Kennedy
2 Matt Evans
3 Jesse Ramien
4 Reubenn Rennie
5 Edrick Lee
6 Jack Williams
7 Jesse Marschke
8 Brock Ilett
9 Blayke Brailey
10 Wes Lolo
11 Scott Sorensen
12 Anthony Moraitis
13 Jack Williams
Interchange
14 Jaimin Jolliffe
16 Billy Magoulias
17 Malakai Houma
18 Ben Marschke

Notes

Brailey to start.

Cruz Topai-Avaei, Lumelume and Carr are all named in Jersey Flegg (20's)

Aufaga-Toomaga, Vasquez, King, Faalua, Nikora, Tuilagi, Jordan Topai-Aveai are the Sharks players not named in any grade (plus Uele and Flanagan obviously)

Leigh Higgins and Matthew Jurd are the Jets players not named.

No word on any of the trialing players. None are named.

I will keep an eye on the Glebe lineup and see if any of these guys turn out for them.

I'm guessing Flano takes both of Capewell and Dillon to Townsville at a minimum and decides on his lineup when he gets there (Ava should play but might not). The most likely guys to come back to the Jets IMO are Hodko and Gray.

Newtown were as programmed on the weekend. Lost 25-24.

https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2018/03/10/wyong-sneak-home-in-round-1-thriller/

Ron Massey Cup doesn't start until 7 April so there is currently very little information available as to whether or not the remaining guys actually got a game on the weekend. Glebe did play a pre-season game so I suspect at the very least the two Jets contracted guys might have played.

the newtown game was a heart breaker

came back from 24-12 down and lost wtih 20 seconds to go

Yeah - I didn’t watch because Falcons/Bears was on at the same time, but was following on Twitter. Bummer for those boys, but it sounds like a few of the Sharks players put on a good showing in their first game on NSw Cup.

The 5/8 gets referred to as “Jack J “. Williams” by the Sharks but the Jets haven’t picked that up yet.

Nikora is in the Jets team this weekend, good news. Very interested in seeing how he progresses.
