just been watching the IBA comp at The Box in WA (bodyboarding, world tour).

Several time world champ Jeff Hubbard, of Hawaii, was just on screen wearing a Sharks jacket. The commentator Gregg Taylor said that Jeff is a Sharks fan after local boy Andrew Lester got him into them a few years back. Gregg himself professed to being a Sharks fan (think he might be local too)

Webcast is being watched all around the world. Good coverage in an unlikely place.

I've been saying it for a LOOOOONG time but I think we've got a brand and beach culture that would have a perfect synergy with the ocean and beach sports world.

exactly! and especially with bodyboarding, Cronulla was the original epicenter of Australian bodyboarding with Shark Island being such a proving ground and what burst many Aussies onto the scene. Plenty of local blokes are household names in the bodyboarding world, Andrew Lester, Wingnut, Nugget...the list goes on and on. Surely they're all Sharks fans.

i'm sure there are ways to use this connection as a marketing angle. i'm not sure how, maybe if those local pros did some kind of collab with the club, you might see the local groms, if they aren't already, start to swing a bit of support for the club. any collab with bodyboarding would be a small time thing though with smallish results, but its just one place the club could potentially tap support from people who could potentially become lifelong supporters in the local area

I know he is a Sharks fan but you wouldn't want him doing anything for our club these days. He's pretty messed up.

That sucks aye. I still remember him carving up as a total youngster in that video that had 'Look out the back' in it.

he did but maybe he's on top of things now?? not sure. i see him popping up from time to time in the world tour footage. he may be a bad example, but still influential in that particular scene...

it'd be good to get on the Shark Island challenge. it would maybe be a little tricky with Northie's or Rydges usually having a hand in...and with Andrew Lester being printed on a wall in Northies now, but yeh it would be the obvious place.

if anyone from the club is reading this, definitely get onto the Island Challenge dudes

Saw wingnut out island a few weeks ago he doesn't look to be on the gear more like the cheesburgers.

I know Lester is a Sharks fan and the part organiser Alex Leon is a fan as well.

we could even speak to Emerald bodyboard specialists for the competition they have a few renowned international riders and some young local talent.

With it being on Fuel TV we could just give them a cap to wear while they get interviewed.

A little trivia.. Peachey use to bodyboard and compete in the local comps with Emerald.

haha i remember probably about 8 years ago walking down the path at North Cronulla with my cousin he points to this guy sitting there sipping a long neck (about 9am on a thursday) and says recognise him? and im like, nah just some dero prick why? and he tells me its 'Nut. I nearly fell over. Was definately a child hood fav of me and my brothers (deathmoth) we even got our first proper body boards from Emerald Surf when they were right down there in the ratty store near the Train station. Not the fancy newer stores they moved to later on. Manta boards and fins just like our man Wingnut

Absolutely. A partnership with RipQuickBong or Volcom would really go hand in glove.
