Thanks for sharing this .

Really glad Dino has decided to let everyone know how he & the club has been led along by the pollies & hope this is just an instalment .

An upgrade to Shark Park would be a benefit to the total community & to use language that Speakman favours these days it will be "inclusive " plus it would be an ongoing benefit unlike some of the cash being splashed around in election promises to noisy specific interest groups .
Honest question, how is it a benefit to the entire community?

Could be wrong, but our COE was meant to have a Pasifika theme, and was also going to be used for those cultural events
Fair enough, to me something benefiting the entire community is a hospital or something like that.

Without going into detail it would be of no less benefit to the community than the government funded stadiums in other parts of NSW & would actuall be of greater benefit . No upkeep for government / council & provide facilities not currently available to other sports people in the shire . Currently it is predominantly a male NRL ground & used by Sharks NRL fans 10 times per year .

Unlike other parts of Sydney undergoing major infrastructure upgrades like motorways & metro systems the Shire pollies have the Active Transport Link (ATL) to brag about & an overdue MRI for the hospital eventually . For those that aren't aware of the ATL it has been happening for ??? years ( Barry O'Farrel was around ) & is a footpath / cycle path Sutherland to Cronulla that will " allow residents to get to their medical appointments quicker " according to the previous premier .🤣🤣🤣

So how would the ground be used differently if it was upgraded? Still waiting for someone to tell me.

Not sure how that other infrastructure stuff is relevant.

From what I recall from a few sources, The COE would provide facilities to community groups indigenous, disadvantaged and disabilities. it will also include upgraded training facilities to team, i.e gym, small pool, ice room, and physio, plus addition change rooms for the women’s team.

then you have the club administration area.

all smashed into one.
there was talk of it being located at park basically where southern stand and attaching to ET.

Yeah I understand the frustration, I'm not sure if it will help leaking conversations to the media though. Obviously it won't make any difference in the Cronulla seat, but I guess they're hoping to have an impact in Miranda electorate and maybe Heathcote, and maybe trying to curry favour with an ALP government if they get in.

My read it is playing the pollies at their own game , ie leaking to the media . No benefit in having an impact on other electorates as Labor leader has said he is against spending money on stadiums . I think the Miranda incumbent has actually been supportive of Sharks getting the funds which is different to the Cronulla incumbent. Interesting that both Cronulla & Miranda pollies were prominently pictured at the season launch a couple of weeks back so timing of article over the weekend was not accidental.

A freeze on stadium spending will follow the March 25 NSW election, irrespective of a Coalition or Labor victory, with both sides of politics committing to investment in grassroots sport despite the risk of losing major international events and elite athletes to Queensland and Victoria.

Both states are investing heavily in sporting infrastructure and elite athlete services ahead of the Brisbane Olympics in 2032 and the Commonwealth Games in regional Victoria in 2026. Meanwhile, the two-decade long failure to reconfigure the Olympic stadium at Homebush may cost Sydney opportunities to host big matches, including the final of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Dominic Perrottet’s NSW government supports the NRL’s push for suburban stadiums but is committed only to a $300 million upgrade of the Penrith stadium, with the NSW Minister for Sport, Alister Henskens, saying, “The NSW Liberal and Nationals Government has invested significantly in both community and major sporting infrastructure across the state and remains committed to upgrading suburban stadiums however following recent natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, it is appropriate that further investment in stadia is staged.”

NSW Labor leader Chris Minns said, “While we have not committed to additional stadium expenditure ahead of the election, if elected we will work with the local and international sporting bodies to see what we can do to make sure more major events keep coming to Sydney.”

Can't see any money coming our way for a long time.

So am I right in saying that if no government money is coming - the ground will be pretty much as it looks now - with maybe some extra tiered standing areas in front of the club - where the masses used to stand anyway ?

It’s actually pretty easy. Instead of spending 300m on one ground, spend 50 each on 6 grounds…
Really needs to be more than one tennant to justify 300m., crazy stuff.

Can't say how much I love Parra Stadium, it's an absolute pleasure to go there. Would love a smaller version of that for us but would only happen if we shared it with the Saints.

Not even close to being accurate, Vic is projected to hit 165 billion in debt by 2025-26.
NSW will hit that number in June.
Well given NSW has about 1.5 million more people It is probably fair to say in absolute terms their debt should be larger. And it is crazy to think Victoria will reach those levels in the next couple years with 1.5ish million less people
