It’s disappointing. I imagine the business case for a NRLW team would have been partly based on getting a Centre of Excellence and stadium upgrades (such as dressing rooms) too.

Maybe it shows that lobbying doesn’t work as well these days when politicians are scared of being caught in pork barrelling or bullying scandals, particularly if they’re safe anyway.

Hopefully it’s just a setback, or that it might be announced some other day. Otherwise it’s another reason for Shire people to make their seats more marginal
We already got allocated coe money in 2017 which hasnt been used.

I wouldnt at all give up hope that we see an announcement

Yeah that was only $8 million though from the NSW Govt and we had to match it, but couldn’t get any money from Fed Govt due to ScoMo being criticised over everything. I think last estimate I heard was around $30 million needed for a Centre of Excellence.

Edit: I do agree about not giving up hope though, I’m sure once the women’s team is going, and we can get some stories about the lack of dressing rooms and huge numbers of girls playing league tag and league, that we will still have a decent chance of State govt funding

Looks like it's off the table

On Monday, Perrottet informed the NRL of the government’s decision to scrap plans to invest in suburban grounds.

Sources with knowledge of discussions told the Herald that the NRL was under the impression the government would follow through on a $250 million pledge to invest in suburban venues 4 Pines Park and PointsBet Stadium. Manly and Cronulla’s home grounds were expected to receive about $100m each with Leichhardt Oval also earmarked for a $50m facelift.

The NRL is now exploring its legal options. The decision may also reignite discussions between the NRL and Queensland government over the future of the grand final given head office has long told the NSW government that the destination of the showpiece event hinged on the level of investment into Sydney stadiums.

Off the table for now. I don't disagree that money could probably be better funnelled to other areas.

Curious to see what PVL does now. Will he move the GF to QLD or have they called his bluff ?

Surely there’s 150million saving to be had by just doing Shark Park?

I think we can all agree that’d be a fair compromise

That’s a lot of money… I wonder what it would have bought. Shame that it’s out for now (would have been very hard to justify politically), but hopefully there’s still a chance in next few years if economy picks up.

Likely a new government in a few years time, who might have a very different view on the NRL and stadium funding. Taking off my Sharks glasses it's hard to not agree that money should be probably funnelled elsewhere.

We'll see how this plays out but if we're waiting years for upgrade money not sure we'll be playing at home much. The place desperately needs some work.

$100m would have been quite the upgrade.

The election will be around March next year so the Opposition (sorry - alternative government) would have a field day going after the government for spending money on local grounds when interest rates / cost if living etc are going up.

We should be spending our tax payer money on wind farms and solar energy because that's heaps cheaper in the long run* than traditional fossil fuel coal powered power stations.

*will take about 100 years to break even plus we will still sell the raw coal / natural gas to China and India so they can do what they want with it.

At least the politicians are consistent in being lowest of the lowest.

We could all use a few new train station carparks, that's for sure
