Big time.

With our ground at full capacity a draw with decent time slots (not thursday or friday arvo) i reckon we’d go near sell out most games. On top of that, game day club revenue (plus all the non game days) and that all important pokie revenue that we just cant live without.
Yep, this is the tragedy with the situation, and the leagues club has always been a massive part of the game day for most of us.

As frustrating as it is right now, I'm confident we'll be ok...

I was looking at this again yesterday, and think I understand it a bit more…?

So Panetta Mercato (fruit shop/deli) and the seafood shop are both directly under the leagues club building, and both yet to open. I assume once they open, that will be when the handover can occur? (Or close to it). Possibly waiting on the unopened restaurant(s) as well.

It still seems a bit strange things can’t work in parallel, but sure there are reasons. At least there is still an incentive for the developers to get things finished….

I know the delay in them opening, atleast Panetta was due to flooding and there was pools of water after rain. You could apparently smell it when you went past.

That’s been fixed and Panetta should be opening pretty soon for the record.

Dino’s on Matt White’s SEN show at the moment talking about the development:

• Frustrated. Leagues Club was supposed to be up and running in February 2022, but has no indication when things will be moving.

• Developers wont release the club lot to let Cronulla rebuild the Leagues club.

• Won’t pursue the legal option at this time due to the time it will be tied up in the courts and the legal costs, but hasn’t ruled it out if things continue the way things are.

• Blames the way agreement was written in 2011 for the bad position the club is in with this deal.

• The club is bleeding money without the revenue the leagues club brings.

• Stadium: No Leagues club means reduced capacity will stay at around 13,000.

• Unhappy with the Government that other clubs are getting funding for facilities and we’re not.

• Asked why we should get Government funding considering we own the stadium, I didn’t catch all of his response but it seemed to centre around the club is owned by the members so they should get the same help other member owned clubs get.

• Has the support and assistance of V’Landys and Abdo to try to get funding.

What a mess.

It really is a mess and it could get very ugly and expensive if we need to explore legal options.

Not good.

What a mess

You'd imagine Developers aren't releasing it because they can't and there's work they need to do before our builders can take over. Given how slow they've been to do the development and the issues the centre has had they've obviously prioritised that over fixing what ever needs to be done to hand over the leagues club.

I wonder if there was an option to just handover as is and we'd take care of it and they could cut us a cheque.

How does not having a league club effect the crowd capacity, loss of capacity comes from losing the 2 hills
1 replaced by a black wall and the other part of the development and corporate tent northern side of ET stand,
Losing top of peter burns which i heard is commended which would maybe fit 500 corporate / sponsors?

somewhat, yes Gando.

they cant re open to 15-18k because of the work being done and the handover. because we cant jump in and do what we need to, we only have the 2 entries and exits which are at one end of the ground and they need to build a new one near the chinese restaurant as per fire regs to get the GA capacity up.

you may ask where all that was in the past and i would say, you could exit the ground into the leagues club through the summertime bar. i would also say in an emergency situation the fence between the old summertime bar and the carpark would have had to have had a gate to exit.

once that is built and the club is redone, all those corporates go from that tent into the club and into the burns terrace. so they can say that they can fit in a bunch more on the hill and have it heaving,

but honestly i think the capacity is gonna land around 16k no matter what dino has said before

Thanks for the great summary. I feel like it’s a bit disingenuous to always blame the 2011 agreement considering that we renegotiated the whole deal in 2019 and got the $40 million payment then. A sunset clause could have been added then. Still nobody could have predicted Covid, and also hard to predict that the developer wouldn’t have wanted it all done as soon as possible.

I still wish he would say exactly why the developer isn’t handing it over

It honestly sounds like it’s no closer to opening than it was when we went to Kogarah.

well, it is because the rest is almost done
what the hold up is from them, is anyone's guess.

work still to be done but hasn't cos of costs and or availability, no way for us to realistically pressure an overseas developer. they can just sit on it forever.

Who is the developer?

I don't know what kind of relation we have with them but would name & shame work? (maybe a leak of some sorts?)
