On latest Sharkcast, Clinton Maynard covered a bit more on the Damian Irvine proposal, which would involve more development (commercial/residential) of the ET stand side or the air space above the leagues club

Would be interesting to see the ideas in detail. Still don’t really think there would be enough money in it to redevelop the ground properly.

Around an hour and 20mins in.

Yeah though had they been bulldozed down club, and made sure the ground under it is able to sustain weight and put the footing deeper into the ground then they could use the space above leagues club.
i could see them connecting et and southern stand though that would take away alot of parking, food stands, change room and space for support area for tv broadcasters.
plus knowing how long it’ll take to get approvals, EPA and then costs in it, then closing the ground down again or limiting it , would hurt abit too

Unfortunately most of the developers lost interest meaning we had to make too many sacrifices in the end.

The bloody peptides scandal had a lot to do with it.

Why would the peptide issue have deterred developers?

The massive negative press - and it led to Irvine leaving who had been working with all the developers at the time.

It ended up meaning only one developer was interested post Irvine which led to Sharks having to make large sacrifices...like having no control of when the club got handed over

I get maybe the impact Irvine leaving but I really don't think the peptide thing directly had any impact.

It directly led to Irvine leaving.

No peptide scandal, Irvine remains in charge and leads the development....
Or maybe to further delve into it, if people were honest with Irvine re peptides then he wouldn't have got blindsided and probably remains in charge

So you're probably right @HaroldBishop

the deal was already done with that developer, wasn't gonna be anyone else
what disappeared was damos checks and balances.

So what Clinton said, the air space above the LC is interesting. DIG UP, STUPIUD!

local joint near my work has done a similar thing (labor club in Belconnen @Matty C of the Shire ). they had the club, then built a hotel and carpark around and above it. but they also knocked buildings over etc so im not sure how feasible that is for us given the support structure needed. but im not an engineer.

the air space thing intrigues tho.
