So did Merritt before him. I mean he's great at scoring 1v0 tries and he is better at some other winger things compared to a Bevan French but he is still really one dimensional.
It's one dimensional but it's a valuable dimension.
There aren't any other players able to combine excellent positioning with enough skill in other areas to tally 30 tries. It's not as easy as it sounds, for whatever reason.

AJ leads all wingers for total try involvements*
35 (30 tries, 4 assists, 1 contribution)

Next best is Taulagi 16-4-3

Our best is Ronnie in 7th, 16-4-0

AJ might not be as valuable in meterage and not as good in some other areas but the sheer volume of points he adds shows his value.

*yes, a suspect stat, but it is what is available

same as cooper cronk
I think Cooper is actually pretty intelligent, he just struggles to articulate anything that doesn't sound like an AI put it together during commentary. Good analyst, awful commentator.

It's definitely an achievement. I guarantee you though, even Richie Kennar wins the try scorer of the year on that wing if AJ isn't there.

If I can count I have his replacement having 11 tries in the 6 games he missed in the past 2 seasons. Mansour/Kennar/Milne

Yeah he tries to get it out too fast more often than not, needs to slow down a bit.

It's like he over and under emphasises the wrong words and it just comes out sounding garbage. It's said to death but for the life of me I don't know why the broadcasters don't just have a team of professional commentators, then cross to the pundits for small snippets of analysis that they can prepare and deliver effectively.

It was Rex Mossop, Graham Hughes and Ian Maurice commentating when I started watching footy. With Billy Anderson on the sideline.

Now it’s like you have to be potential, future immortal to get a gig.

I like having ex players but they need to be able to ****ing communicate if they're going to be on TV. Most of them are embarrassing.

Great days.

Warren Boland on the ABC Saturday game.

Yes, I am old enough to remember Warren Boland playing let alone commentating. Who was the guy who was on the ABC before him? Was it John O'Reilly for the match of the day?

I remember him playing as well, had his footy card as a kid.

I was too young to remember who commentated before him.

Was it John Peard? He was commentating around that time from memory.

That's a good read. This week is destroying me. Anyone else feel the same? Getting to the point where win or lose I just want the game over and done with.
Same… I think we win this game and go down valiantly to the panthers I’ll be happy and call it a good season.

Going out in straight sets this weekend will be a kick to the nuts ….
