Official Samuel Stonestreet

At this point you would hope that they would have identified why it happens.

I don’t doubt the ticker…..but there is something he is doing that means he continually gets pole axed….

I fear for Stoney when we play Roosters in a few weeks.
I think Marky Mark might school him, maybe Fitzy needs to do a last minute tactical switch for that match up on game day

Definitely needs to figure out how to win a contact. Cant doubt his heart, always throws himself straight back into them.

Would love to see some forwards take some runs off him on get out sets where it starts with our forwards back there (not deep kick ones), just to conserve the body a little.

Very much a work in progress

Maybe he should try running in between people instead of straight into them like Lang / Long .
I know there is not much space there in those yardage runs though ..

Unless you have Sione Katoa movement skills it’s not so easy*, but even a tiny bit of footwork so you don’t run exactly at where they are trying to line you up

Also maybe needs to keep developing a bit more leg drive so he can try keep some momentum some of the time

*and then you just cop criticism for going sideways instead

Just not the way the game is played now. Which is in no small part our own faults.

Just needs to have some more awareness when he's running into traffic. Seems perpetually surprised when he's (frequently) laid out, like some giant forward has somehow teleported directly in front on him.

There’s def some other teams that dont run as many backs as us on get out sets when everyone’s already back there

Even if it was just 1 or 2 a game

Long kicks he just has to take them

The try and take from the drop out are what gives me hope. However, he's very little chance of beating tackles, and is getting folded repeatedly. Another preseason or two should really help him in these areas, and give him more chance to use his speed.

He's got something, just not what we've been used to with strong yardage carries.

He's here on a cheap deal long term. If it works out, we'll be laughing. If not he'll be fine depth on the wing.
Xavier Coates was like that the first year or two until he filled out.

I'm sure he will get there.

Mixed bag today.
He doesn't shy away from contact and... gasp! got to show his pace after a great play by Iro.
Some good catches too, but completely missed his assignment for the first Dargons try.

Totally worth persevering with tough.

he had more post contact metres than Ronnie for les runs
Does that mean he was dominated less than Ronaldo? I don't think there's a stat for how many times you get folded/put on your back. Ronnie was miles better at getting the balled played quickly and helping momentum. I like Stoney and think he cops way more than he deserves in here, but comparing him in yardage to Ronnie doesn't pass the eye test.

It means that his runs into traffic were more effective than Ronnie's.

It doesn't actually. It means he made more total meters after contact, that's it.

A player can easily have less of those metres, but find their front quicker contributing to momentum for the next hit up. This would be a far more effective way of running into traffic.

You can't honestly watch the two last night and say Sam's hit ups were more effective than Ronaldo's.

Yeah. There is no stat for "runs into traffic" either. To infer "effectiveness" statistically you would have to have a breakdown of where the runs happened, how many were hitups, how many defenders were in the tackle and so on.

On the eye test I did notice that two of Sam's better runs were dummy half scoots. Might be something in that.

Everything is situational. Every winger gets bashed on yardage carries some of the time.
