Compared to other trials TPJ sparked him into action, need to carry that form on and will be damaging for us

Only going to get better as he gets even more footy under his belt. Absolute weapon.

TPJ for some reason put a target on him and he just lapped it up.

If you had a choice Toby or Royce for the 17 and could ONLY choose one , who are you selecting ?

Great game given his lack of prep, can't wait to see what he's like after a few more runs.

For what role?

30 off the bench - either.
Starting and playing 45+ minutes - Toby

Toby can come off the back fence too if needed. He just wasn’t playing that role last season.

I agree. You need a combination of playing styles in the pack. Some all-rounders who just get **** done (Finucane, McInnes, Tolman), some guys who bring the mongrel (Hunt, BHU, Talakai) and some who give you a bit of each (Williams, Rudolf).

For me, in a fully healthy/available squad, for mongrel-factor I want at least 3 of BHU, Hunt, Rudolf, Williams, and Talakai. Given the guys missing we may end up with all of them in for round 1.

Guys like Fifita, Hunt and Pele... Colquhoun, Hazelton... looked like regular starters with a good defensive structure in place. It was awesome to see our players pulling themselves into shape when the Dogs attack started to build up some steam, looking for their teammates and where a gap might be to make sure there was a solid defensive line at all times. Brailz had some tough hombres next to him in BHU and Dale which looked to make his defensive job a lot easier too.

Brailey Got dragged in and out of position to open the gap for Burtons try.
needed to slide to cover burton and trust his inside defender on the ball carrier. Had some nice runs with ball in hand. Want more from him closer to the line. Add more options to our attack.

Yeah, we were caught short and it wasn't a great read by Brailz or our edge, but it was the exception. They showed enough improvement in defensive structure and understanding of their assignments that I don't think we'll see much of that through the year

That was probably more to do with both Nikora and Hynes getting stuck at marker on the play. It was a bad read (and/or poor communication) on that side by Brailey and BHU and they should have been good enough to shut it down, but most times you don't expect your 3-in and 4-in defenders to be the markers in the middle of the field. It was good play from the Bulldogs to recognise that.

Don’t get me wrong. I think we did defend much better than last season so not hanging crap on him. You can forgive occasional errors or misreads.
Overall we (and brail’s) defended well and shut the dogs down more often than not. Good signs.

Cronulla heavyweight Royce Hunt says he is happy to hop in the ring and sort out any differences with Tevita Pangai jnr, who was not charged following his “brain explosion” on Monday night.
The Sharks pack also took exception to Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett's post-trial comments about “Cronulla having a few forwards who have a bit of niggle”.

Pangai Junior reported for high shot

Velasquez beats up Brock Lesnar

Bulldozing Canterbury recruit Tevita Pangai Junior was reported for a high shot on Cronulla winger Sione Katoa in a trial match.
Pangai was sin-binned and put on report in the first half after he tried to get physical and shredded Hunt’s jersey. The TV commentators were left stunned with Greg Alexander saying: “He [Pangai] wasn’t on a mission to run hard and tackle hard. He was on a mission to get sent off.”
Hunt, who scored a few minutes later, said he had grown up playing against Pangai, and even spent a season with him at the Raiders, but there had been no bad blood between the pair.

“He plays with a lot of aggression – I think he had a brain explosion,” Hunt told the Herald.

“He should keep that for in the ring. If he wants to have a go in the ring, we’ll go ... keep that for the ring brother, we’ll just play footy on the field.
“He likes to go out and prove something every game. He’s a very good player, he just needs to tone it down.
“I wouldn’t mind going in the ring and having a go. I don’t know if I can [throw them]; we’ll find out one day.

“We shook hands and had a bit of a hug. There were no hard feelings. We had a few goes at each other in the second half, but there was nothing major.”

Cronulla skipper Wade Graham was forced to the sideline with an ankle injury but was unimpressed by Pangai’s antics.
“I thought it was a bit of rubbish, to be honest; it’s footy, get on with the game,” said Graham, who added: “I wouldn’t get in the ring with Royce.”
Fellow Sharks front-rower Braden Hamlin-Uele enjoyed the running battle between Hunt and Pangai and said the try Hunt scored in the first half “was the only punch he needed”.

“Royce did a good job of keeping his composure,” he said.
The 26-year-old Pangai won his only professional fight before Christmas, and only after he was given Canterbury’s blessing to pull on the gloves.
Pangai has a poor disciplinary record, and the Bulldogs were not happy his actions placed them under pressure. He was also placed on report for making contact to the head of Sione Katoa.
Barrett said of Pangai after the 30-6 loss: “We want Tevita to be aggressive, but we have to be smart.”
The coach was less complimentary of the Cronulla pack – and his comments did not go down well with some in the Shire.

“‘Baz’ has been around a long time, he even played at this club and with guys like ‘Gal’ [Paul Gallen],” Graham said.
“The teams of old maybe [had that niggle], but we don’t know what kind of team we are at the moment.

“That’s not a fair assessment. There’s been a lot of change in personnel. Cam McInnes and Dale Finucane are hardly the niggly types. It’s a bit unfair.”
Meanwhile, Graham was awaiting scans on a left ankle injury that looks set to force him out of the opening rounds, including Friday week’s road trip to Canberra.
While Graham did not hear any snaps and was not in pain, he said the medicos were certain it was “some sort of syndesmosis injury”.

I’m going to call a massive year from Hunt. I think he is just the player we need to win the battle of the interchange and by mid season we’ll see him as critical to our forward pack dominating other sides. Seems to have the right temperament and desire ( and built like an F’ing tank )

Flame me if I’m wrong.

I think so too. I expect the same from Talakai too . Maybe wishful thinking but one can hope.

Was hoping for a big year for him after disappointments of last season and looking massive in preseason pics. First two trials knocked my confidence a bit but came back in a big way in recent trial.

Had a physique to come on with 15 to go in the half and have the other team watching the clock, and then dreading the end of halftime.
