Not bad today. Exciting game with plenty of points in it. We definitely ran out of puff at the end, which resulted in errors and silly penalties, and Penrith found an extra gear with the home ground advantage. I think for this game we should have either started barba or dropped him, so we could get an extra forward on the bench to help those poor buggers trying to get over last week.
It didn't help having Lewis need to interchange, and if Taga is playing, he needed to spend more time on the field.

I'm not ready to slit the wrists yet! There was plenty of character and good line speed while our guys had the energy.

Definitely no need to slit wrists yet but it was crap to see us go back to the type of play that had us lose games to the raiders broncos and titans. We didnt deserve to win those games and we didnt deserve to win this.

Watching the game again and from what I saw I don't even think we had a player in the 5/8th role. It looked like we just had an extra forward.

Is Flanno treating the games as trials or something?

Few points I found from this game.

1. I want barba in the team but we really needed an extra forward on the bench. I watched a bit of the jets game and Houma is running hard and seems really hard to slow down. I don't know about his fitness but I think this was the game to give him a sneaky 20 minute stint.

2. Jack Bird is a centre. He looks dangerous on the edges but needs to get there himself at 5/8. He's doing it well but give him early ball out there and he doesn't need to run sideways to create havoc. I'd like to see Barba given another go at 5/8, I know he hasn't impressed there but it solves some problems in my eyes. Then which centre spot does bird take? I think leutele and Feki have a good thing going and Beale has too much class to not be in the team.

I'd be going with:
1. Holmes
2. Feki
3. Leutele
4. Bird
5. Beale
6. Barba
7. Robson (For now)

I just can't see a place for Gordon anymore, he's a solid player but we have to look to the future. Beale has played a bit of fullback so if supercoach still doesn't think Holmes is quite ready for 80 minutes at the back, give Beale stints there.

In saying all that, I know it's not going to happen. We will run out with the same team for a good few weeks. Flanna still probably thinks he's found a lethal recipe.

3. Robson. I like the bloke, he gives 110% for 80 minutes but we desperately need a creative half that can actually read a defensive line and play what's in front of him, not just exercute his pre planned play. Who do we go for? I'm liking Elgey a lot. He's goin to be a gun.

Really disappointed with this loss. We could of shot into the 8 and above all else it would of proved we were the real deal. This was the most excited I'd been for a game in a while. Beer, smokes and being a sharks supporter= recipe for disaster. I won't live past 30 at this rate.

Agree with most of that mate, good post.

Flanno sort of has to stick with the current mix, for better or worse. You can't just drop players on the back of a hard fought loss, it sends the wrong message. Gotta show some faith.

I do agree that the current 'shape' isn't probably the ideal though. I've been a big supporter of Barba at 6 and I still have hope that it will work but I can't ignore the fact that he looks much more comfortable and confident chiming in from fullback. Maybe leave him there to build some confidence?

I'm still not convinced that Gordon is the one to be dropped though. I think his form has been as good or better than both of the centres. So perhaps a shuffle is in order.

I'd probably just leave it as it is for now. We've only lost 1 out of 4 and we were pretty well in this game anyway, despite it not really being our day.

Injuries will sort it out eventually anyway.

One of those sh$t games where the opposition catches a bunch of lucky breaks with the bounce of the ball. Hate it. It no point getting worked up. It's karma.

Im more pissed we played so poorly in the dry. Barba had 2 bad errors, Toupo and Bakuya. There were a few forward passes too. Then there was our defense. We gave them easy metres. Unlike last year where we won that game before rep rd, rep round has come at the right time for us. A week off, niggling injuries rest. Really get into some fitness and come back fresh for a home game next week.

Im looking forward to the warriors game

Player stats...

Poor use of the bench would contribute to being gassed in the second half. Interesting how Penrith's outside backs and bench contribute a lot more to tackles too. I thought Bryce Cartwright was really good value for them.

Taga with 17 minutes again, really don't get why he uses a spot like that
Am I right in saying that there was a period later in the first half when both taga and prior was sitting on the bench? Who replaced prior? Was Arona wasn't it?

What has Taga done to be in the ****house? If he is in there why not just bring up another kid for the front row?

Yea I agree AB, there not playing bad individually.
As I said a half with vision could bring it all together, there just seems to be something missing.

Barba seems more comfortable at the back and your right, with a few line breaks he could start getting that confidence back which could see him running at the line more, I just think that bench spot is wasted on a third fullback. Especially yesterday, they were tired in that second half and an extra forward/ smart bench rotations could of made a big difference.

It should have been obvious to Flanno that we'd be tiring with 20 to go given the conditions our last two games were played in. Really poor.

Yea definitely, not just the conditions but our game plan. When you try to grind teams week after week it's going to catch up to you.

As annoying as this loss is, I think we all need a deep breath look at the rabbits they also seriously ran out of puff and made silly fatigued penalties and errors absoltly last Monday night kicked both teams in the nuts.. Have a week off train hard and unload hell on the Warriors.

Agree with this. Annoying loss but we just didn't have the legs after Monday's effort.

We have done well over the last month to resurrect the season. I am glad we have a week off this week. The real test will be the next two games before our first bye.

Warriors at Home,
Gold Coast Away.

If we are to be a serious threat this year, we need to win both.
