- Gary Jack starred for Balmain in a magnificent match, scoring a spectacular 70-metre try.
- Two tries in three minutes late in the first half gave the Sharks a 12-10 lead at the break.
- The first came after Lane threw a deft passs to Nixon on the boil, who drew Jack to give Mick Mullane a simple try.
- The next came when Greg Mullane re-gathered a Miller bomb.
- Olsen Filipaina scored set up the match-winner for the Tigers just a minute after half-time, bumping off three defenders from a standing start, before Gary Bridge scored.
- The best for Cronulla were Miller, the Sorensen brothers and McNamara.
