It's not being a defeatist, it's facing reality. Dragging out conspiracy theories is purely clutching at straws. Melbourne are just better at the moment, they have the game plan to beat us and I don't think we have the versatility to adapt.

As for ways to improve: First thing comes to mind is Improve our kicking game, Melbourne's defence ate up everything we had in attack, they were just too good for what we had to offer, we simply don't have the skill to do this, with Chad/Maloney on board next year, maybe.

The issue I have with that statement is that no team will be able to match it with the storm if they are given the ability to continually hold down in the ruck and reset their defensive line whilst the other team is penalised instantly for it. Melbourne's defence ate up everything we had because we never got any quick play of the balls. Fast ruck means defence is on the back foot which creates the space to be able to put plays on, gain numbers advantage ect.

Now before you say Melbourne are just good at it, that's bullocks. Melbourne were allowed to do it, we were not.

I firmly believe that if Melbourne were to play any team in the comp with the advantage they had Monday night, the results would be exactly the same

Worry is it looks like we didn't train for their pet plays. That try Bromich scored was exactly the same as the corresponding play early in the year which was right in front of me back then. Think they actually scored two like that first time round.

It's hard to say we could have won if we played better, maybe that's true, but it was hard to play at all when they were flopping and peeling without being penalised while we copped the whistle almost instantly. Seriously, from the ET Upper you could see all night long how they were rarely on-side (and Badger never blew the whistle). There were times they would blatantly hold a player down for 5 seconds or more after being called held and no penalty was given. I watched Cam Smith trip, stand on, and almost kick our players while they were down and nothing happened. The reffing was a farce and to gloss over that by saying we just played **** is a c convenient way to explain away a game without actually watching it critically.

We were flat, yeah, but it's hard to get any go forward whatsoever when your opponents have already reset their line (which was less than 10m away) and are rushing you after you've taken 3 steps out of the ruck.

I don't want to remember this game anymore, it wasn't a fair contest and probably ruined our top 4 aspirations. Next.

Yeah agree 100%. The issue going forward is that any team worth a pinch saw what happened and if they have any smarts about them will do the same. Then it becomes a game decided by the refs. Will they blow the whistle, or wont they.

After Kent and ikin made special mention of storms laying around the ruck, you would think the ref may we'll blow the pea out of the whistle against them this round.., cam may well start crying.

Yeah can't remember if it was Kent ir ikin said something like... 3 weeks out from finals and the refs forget all about the players peeling off one by one rule.. I still think is we are smart we learn from the game that when we get frustrated we have to stick with what we have been doing well last 10 games.. Not that frustrating side 2 side amateur grade ad lib footy.

I've been talking to mates who all go for other clubs who were fuming about it as well. They were worried about their sides (rooster, Cowboys, Manly, Doggies) coming up against the Storm in a final and having to deal with that kind of crap. So its not just Sharks fans who were upset about it.

I said that to chad about 5 minutes into the game about the Melbourne players peeling off the tackle 1 by 1 and that they wouldn't get penalised for it. We were no chance in that game, gavin badger is a terrible referee

I just don't know why it has to be so complicated. They come up with this whole criteria for what they will and won't penalise (which they don't enforce anyway). But they can still just ping them for not getting up in a timely manner. If they are purposely and clearly not making a timely effort to get up just penalise them. It'll probably only take one or two penalties for them to change what they are doing and we end up with a better game.

The Storm were very well backed just before kick off.

Big bets too.

Just thought i would throw that in the mix.

Is there still a rule about third man in flops? Or something like that? That was one thing that really stood out on Monday, aside from all the other garbage in the ruck. Often the third storm player in a tackle was arriving and flopping well after the tackled player was on the ground. If their ain't a rule about that there should be. It's very easy to see if a player has arrived after the tackle has been completed.

The rule exists except for the Storm.
