Precisely, and Lewis was hit before the line, so it was not an 8 point try

Happy enough with the ruling but wheres the point begin where you are actually scoring rather than approaching. When he got hit he was in dive mode . Its not like he got hit and made 3 steps.

Its Academic now. You could argue that you are In the act of scoring; if you are lunging for the line or reaching out to out the ball down.
One for the lawyers...

Ofcourse he was in the act of scoring. What did they think he was doing, diving to the ground to take the tackle and play the ball?
Act of scoring should be better defined and shouldn't mean already over the line - it's a ridiculous technicality where the application of some common sense needs to be applied

Lewis cops a knock on the head and where is our advantage? We should have some of our nuffties like Taga do it to opposition players if all that happens is they get put on report

Curious if he dropped it after the high shot does he get a penalty try?

Surely you would have to think so - remember the Storm/Dragons grand final, different sort of positioning but both players are in a 100% position of scoring a try

Lewis did very well to hang onto it but dropping it after getting clobbered who knows how the refs would have ruled.

All doesnt matter now. But we shouldnt need to question that. The rules are clear, if its in the act etc. but what constitues 'in the act of'. Do you say if they dont make another step? In the air? Over the line?
In the act of is way too vague of a scenario if you ask me.

Or **** the extra kick for goal off and just give the scoring team a penalty on half way rather than recieving a kick off

Rough times polishing the Sharks?

Rough times polishing the Sharks?
Sometimes it takes adversity to show just what ability a team really possesses.

Surely now, the Cronulla Sharks will have learnt something sustainable from their thrilling 30-28 NRL victory over Newcastle at Hunter Stadium.
Ball players

Man of the Match Jack Bird causes havoc for the Knights’ defence.
Learnt that by passing the football instead of safety first hit ups, having a real dig and letting ball players do their bit, they actually do have some attacking tryscorers in their group.
Despite some gutsy victories, including two wins over the Sydney Roosters, the Sharks have been plagued by an inability to score tries.
Dowdy style
It has been the same for several years, courtesy of a rather dowdy style.
Maybe, just maybe, the Knights did the Sharks a favour on Sunday afternoon,
Play footy
Because it wasn’t until the Sharks fell 10 points behind on the scoreboard, midway through the second half – and looked like they were going out the back door – before they realised they needed to start playing some football.
Finally, they let the ball do their talking – just like they had in scoring their first try (for Valentine Holmes) – early in the first half,
Backed up
First, Gerard Beale made a rare break, linked with Luke Lewis and Ben Barba before Lewis backed up to score, despite copping a high shot on the tryline (it could easily have been an eight-point try).
Barba then dived over himself from a set up play, an inside pass from Wade Graham.
Bird individual try

Benny’s back: Ben Barba scores soon after coming on.
And then young Jack Bird scored his second try, a great individual effort from a grubber kick close to the line.
Three converted tries in seven minutes. Yes, all by the Sharks.
Barba’s cameo
Ben Barba’s cameo appearance at fullback (replacing an injured Sosaia Feki) was short but sweet.
Coach Shane Flanagan, however, says only form will dictate whether Barba will be selected in the run-on side in future.
After so many poor games, Barba knows he owes this team.
No guarantees
The Sharks know, too, playing the way they did over 80 minutes to beat the struggling Knights (9 losses in 10 games) won’t guarantee more victories.
Especially against leaders North Queensland this coming weekend.
But if the Sharks, now knocking on the door of the top eight, can just duplicate that seven minutes several times… who knows.
Sharks 30: J Bird 2, L Lewis, V Holmes, B Barba tries; M Gordon 5 goals d Knights 28: J Mamo, B Scott, C Tuimavave, K Snowden tries; K Gidley 6 goals.
