Official Ronaldo Mulitalo

In a team of nice guys, the lose of a guy like Ronnie will be keenly felt. It's up to you now Billy.

I guess the one positive we can take out of this is that all the youngsters now walk-in to pre-season knowing a spot is open in the backline.
Sam the frontrunner of course but they'll be trying their best to get ahead of him.
Should be good for all of them.

If there’s any positives release the club has time to prepare for life without him. SS will know he’s likely a starter, though maybe that’s a bad thing but we can also make sure we have other depth ready.

Hiroti is next man up but we need to have some more depth

Another small positive is the time of the year he did it.

He’s was about to have a big break anyway and in 9 months it will only be July, so you’d think he’s a good chance of playing some footy next season, rather than it being a write off.

You compare it to when McInnes did his at the Dragons (February, I think), it would be a lot harder at that time of year to make it back in time.

With the salary cap relief being only for a “like for like” player, what exactly does that mean? Most obvious is lose a winger, you can sign a winger. But every winger lists them self as a fullback or centre. Do they have to have played X amount NRL in that position?

If (God forbid) KL got hurt playing fullback for the Cookies, would we get relief to sign a fullback or centre?

“like for like”

Educated guess who am I kidding, I have NFI, would be something like:

$500k quality for $500k quality.
Not $1m for $300k

From what others were saying the maximum compensation is $350,000. Bort mentioned he didn’t think Bula would fit the “like for like” requirement to be eligible for Ronnie’s salary cap relief money.

My take would be it's just someone who can reasonably considered a replacement. I don't think you'll get a lot of **** for signing a centre as a replacement for Ronnie, but you can't sign a prop.

All speculation of course but, if Bula was considered to be a like-for-like replacement, that 350k plus the 500k saving should Ramien depart ahead of 2026, should get Bula over the line and still allow for some minor roster management.
Long term, though, when Ronnie returns from injury and Kennedy leaves at the end of 2026, Bula’s switch to fullback would then create a problem in terms of bringing Liam Ison into first grade.

The 350k is only for next season, and Bula is contacted.

While Bula remains contracted for 2026, he is clearly very unsettled at the Tigers thanks to their treatment of his wife and their seeming reluctantance to trigger the clause in his current deal for 27’ and beyond.
The lad wants 900k for 2027, which, in and of itself would be manageable for the Sharks given the amount of players coming off contract at the end of next season.
He’s also managed by Isaac Moses who, as we have seen this season, makes things happen regardless of a player’s contractual situation.

Yeah, I’m not accepting Bula is a ‘winger’.

I think for a centre they probably still have had to play some wing but at the end of the day who knows exactly how NRL would rule.

Manly were annoyed a couple years back because they could only sign a fullback when turbo got injured in SOO but they could already cover that position better than anyone available, and would have preferred to improve their side elsewhere. They pushed for the like for like limitation to be removed but I don’t think succeeded.

I would hope we're not interested in Bula for 900k, not worth it.

Yeah I think there's less truth to this story than has been made out. I reckon he stays.

What about Tom Jenkins, might be interested after being dropped for Alamoti in finals, still has 1 yr left on contract though
