Wow that’s horrendous
7 misses on the weekend too shows he isn’t aiming up in D either

He contributes plenty of crash plays close to the line tho - that counts for something surely 🤣

Can we ask the same about Talakai?

2 points this season I think?

Probably not fair actually. He does contribute but hasn’t found the line yet this season.

The bloke leads the league in total try assists!
Equal third for total line break assists
And 16th for average run meters padded by no long breaks (12th for PCM)
Equal 25th for total tackle breaks

His offence is not an issue for me
Yeah agree, he contributes in a lot of areas mate.

To nerd out a little on the answer on Brailey. If you look at regular season stats from the start of 2022 and normalize the numbers to be on a per 80 minute basis. Comparison is against the top hooker at each club.

* He is 13th/17 when it comes to a combined Try Assists, Tries, Line Break Assists, Line Breaks with 0.91 per 80 minutes. Best in the NRL is Harry Grant with 2.29. Our Brailey is basically identical to Newcastle version Brailey who has 0.93.
* Tackle Efficiency is 5th/17 with 94.3%. Best is Damien Cook 96.9%. Brother Brailey not far behind with 96.1%
* Tackle Breaks is 12/17 with 0.98 per 80mins. Two best in the comp are Brandon Smith (3.76) and Grant (3.3)
* Run Meters is 14/17 with 44.1 per 80 mins. Best is Brandon Smith with 142.8.
* Kick Meters is 9/17 with 18 per 80 mins. One of many hookers who don't really have much of a kicking game. Most is Grant again with 82.
* Errors is 4/17 with 0.4 per 80 mins. Best is Newcastle version Brailey with 0.3.

So to summarize he is not providing all that much attacking wise and has no kicking game. But he's a comparatively excellent defender who barely makes errors.

Your numbers around Cheese I think are heavily skewed by his time at lock. Don't think he is putting up 140m+ from hooker?

Yeh this is true. I could have taken the non-hooker parts out if I had more time.

Taking out his time at Lock. The Cheese is still easily number 1 for Hookers in run meters. Had 118 metres against us last year in the game he was binned in when Grant was away on Origin duty. The cheese wheel can run.....

Brailey is there to make tackles it seems.
Get to hooker and provide error free service.
Make tackles.

I actually thought he moved around a bit in last weekends game compared to some. Thought I saw him engage marker a bit more.

He has crisp service that’s for sure. He definitely needs to take a couple steps, draw that marker and then dish it out. Glad you saw him doing that.

He does have the ability to sniff out offside markers, will give him that.

Would love to see linking up with Will on a scoot. He did used to scoot a bit, maybe he has been instructed to just deliver the ball?

How did you normalize these numbers?

If I was normalizing, I would adjust for team possession, and then compare against the 80-minute performance of the other teams' hookers. That could be one player or two, and they could switch in-game, so I'd have to watch the games to know, and record when they subbed and what they did after that.

If I was going to go one step further, I'd look at the players' performance before being subbed, after a rest, and after being on the field for 20 minutes contiguously, to see if there is anything telling me that their work-rate or effort drops off, and if they are missing more tackles or running any less when under fatigue,

Did you do that?

If not... you just took an average, The only somewhat-relevant stat is Tackle Efficiency. Brailey top 5 in the comp for hookers. Great to know. Thanks.

I look forward to your contiguous results graph!

(Did I use that right? Another new one for me!)
