You’re lucky you’re the coach and not a parent. Some coaches are asking all parents to get on a WhatsApp chat for the team so you get the coaches info and then little Johnny’s dad says he can’t come he has worms and then half the other parents chime in wishing well or saying about how their kid had worms one time
Or at least that’s the feedback from my colleagues sons basketball team and WhatsApp and how he feels about it
Yep this **** happens. I put it on mute and just check every few days.

What’s app is epic for team chats. I can post messages and see who has read them. Parents / players still message me on the side. I find it easiest to get info out.

I use WhatsApp for my son’s cricket team, works beautifully for me. I send out game times and locations, scoring rosters, coach’s notes, etc. Always get 1 or 2 who are slow to respond but otherwise it’s great.

The NRL coaching material actually tells you to setup a team chat. Communication is equally important in juniors as the actual coaching bit. As much as the kids think pre-season is about fitness, it’s not. Usually it is more about getting by the parents in line than the kids ;) Set a standard early and don’t bend the rules ever - ESPECIALLY for your own kid.

I use a similar thing for our own team, but I use one with a calendar, full contact details for everyone, and where info is “posted” and always accessible rather than “sent” to parents. It’s a subtle difference but it changes the dynamic.

“I didn’t get the Email/text” is not a valid excuse in our team. The info is there 24/7 and you have the phone number and Email address of every other parent. If you can’t be bothered to spend 15 seconds of your day to check it that tells me a lot.

*

The club though, Facebook only for all communications - even with coaches and managers. Not messenger- just post to the Fb page and hope they get back to you some time this month. I’m at the club 3 or 4 nights some weeks ffs. I’d take an a4 piece of paper once a month over what they are doing now.

Tom Hazelton is in one of the pics so guess he’s still with us:
Yeah - I added him to the list of T+T players in the signings threads yesterday.

He has a bit of Jolliffe about him for mine. Not hyped young but quietly improving I’d love to see him get a full season of Jets footy to show what he’s got.

The following players are yet to be shown in pre-season training. It’s not unusual for some players to start a little later - especially the more experienced guys. Some of these though will either be injured or gone, and there is one non-vaxxed player in the top 30 (suspected to be Talakai).

Top 30: Finucane, Hynes, Rudolf, Talakai, Ramien, Ikuvalu, Taumoepeau, Hunt, Graham, Fifita, Brailey, Moylan, Hiroti, Tolman, Berrell

Other: Ferris (injured), Samrani, O’Donnell, Paterson, Vasquez, Raper, Milne, Coyne, Ernst, Longmuir, Ieriko, Boyling, Slade, Geraghty, Cantrill

😄 WhatsApp needs the option to mute individual people in a group chat.

There was a message in our class school group a few weeks back.

Someone posted a photo of a ball asking if it belonged to anyone as their kid had brought it home.

A mother replied saying yes, it was her stress ball from when she was migrating IT systems at work a few weeks ago and how big a project it was, very stressful, blah blah blah.

Who. Gives. A. ****.

Mate, the stuff that comes up through the class chats... it's one of the reasons I can't open Facebook these days

😂

It’s good that you can do the first bit though. It’s not the App’s fault.

The funny thing is that it’s often these parents with verbal diarrhoea on the meaningless crap who are the worst at responding when it matters.

The SuperCoach WhatsApp chat I am in will have 400+ messages a day for most of the regular season. There's 8 people in it... and I hardly post. I do the same HB, mute and skim occasionally.

Graham started today. I’ve updated the list in the quote.

Also Jensen and Samrani (thanks TS)

Not sure if been mentioned but looks like Gallen still involved.
Likely a part time role as specialist middle coach like last year I guess?

Lewis also. He’s rocking a beard so looks pretty different
