Really bad start for the Tillies ☹️

Yeah, one of the worst performances from them in a while. Still, not the end of the world. In that round robin system, even third place in the group has a very good chance of getting through to the KO stages, which will be handy as we have the USA in our group. Just need to put Zambia to the sword in our next game to get that goal difference back in our favour.

Yeah we also need Germany to beat the US and Zambia.

I'm really not confident about our chances now :(

I’m still quite confident of at least getting out of the group in third place at the very least. But beyond that? Well hopefully the draw is kind. They’re really missing that Sam Kerr fear factor out there. Mary Fowler is on the upwards trajectory to have a similar presence, but she is still young and not quite there yet, as good as she is.

Yeah I think Mary is still a good 2 to 3 years away from dominating games.

Wasn’t sure about the opening ceremony, thought it was very made for tv at first, but it’s got better and better. This French boat procession is spectacular.

Everyone I'm speaking with thinks it's absolutely merde. Mind you, the poms don't exactly get on with the French so their opinions might not be truly unbiased. :giggle:

Ha yeah maybe I’m just getting the Olympic spirit. Would be interesting to know what it’s like for the crowd, looks a long way away. Just glad they got through the boat parade without an incident, I wouldn’t have gone on that USA boat

Yep. Watched the game. Very far from their best and felt very disjointed, like they had never played together before at times.
Getting in each others way, no structure, no separation of positions (positional play between the defence, midfield, attack), No support when they made an attacking run and even looked “rushed” and flustered.

They have a big mountain to climb to make it to the next round.

And I believe it’s only 1 of the 3rd placed group teams that progresses, so I wouldn’t be relying on getting through finishing 3rd.

Just saw part of the opening ceremony. It was the most cringeworthy thing I've seen since when Souffs replaced cheerleaders with the marching drummers!

I loved it by the end, thought it was the best yet, and my guess is we’ll see similar for all future opening ceremonies. I do hope the athletes enjoyed it ok though, maybe not the same for them as previous years

The hoisting of the Olympic flag upside down didn't help either. Lol

Im not much of an Opening Ceremony guy, but I love the concept of using the actual city rather than a stadium.

Makes you wonder what 2000 would have looked like on Sydney Harbour. Maybe having torch bearers climbing the Harbour Bridge and lighting the cauldron on top.

It's a good concept in theory, but you lose all the atmosphere by not having it in a big stadium.

Boomers with a massive win over an extremely tough opponent in Spain. Thats massive for them. Now getting ready for Field Hockey vs Argentina. Tonight could be salvaged folks.

Good tough game so far, Argentina aren't going away.
