Oregon I think is a great signing if can pull it off. Got some good experience at a young age and he would be playing for us in the early part of his prime years.

Yep, got an excellent junior pedigree too. Made all the rep teams.

He won't be expected to his prime for a few more years and with more experience.

I do feel a bit for the Eels given he came through their junior system to play NRL.
I know players need to look after themselves and their futures and don’t begrudge them doing so but it would be nice to see loyalty sometimes for this type of scenario.

Eels must have been desperate to keep him when they extended RCG and Paulo ahead of him…

They are the ones that chose to let the junior go when they locked him into a bench role and spent all their prop money on other players.

Even if they had salary dispensation to match offer leaving may be in his best interest

funny, eels fans were saying how ripped off we are when every journo said it was a 3 year 1.2 mil deal

its a 2 year 600k deal now and they are blowing up

fwiw, this is a smart signing, one that bellamy and robbo make

Oregon Kaufusi

Cronulla have confirmed the signing of forward Oregon Kaufusi on a two-year deal from 2023.
Kaufusi has played 44 first-grade games for Parramatta over four seasons since making his debut in late 2018.
The 22-year-old, who has lined up in the front row in the few games he's been named in the run-on side for the Eels, is the latest addition to the Cronulla squad under new coach Craig Fitzgibbon.
A new-look forward pack featuring Dale Finucane and Cameron McInnes will run out in 2022, while Kaufusi will link up with them the following season.
"New Zealand-born and of Tongan heritage, Kaufusi will remain at the Parramatta club for the 2022 season, before joining the Sharks for the 2023 and 2024 seasons," a Sharks statement read.
"Having come through Hills Sports High School, Wentworthville junior league club and the Eels junior representative system, Kaufusi debuted in the NRL in a round 23 match in 2018.

"A highly rated junior, Kaufusi represented NSW in the under 16’s, 18’s and 20’s and is a former Australian Schoolboy.
"Just 22 years of age and at an imposing 188cm and 114kgs, Kaufusi is aggressive and hard running and is set to add plenty of size and depth to the Sharks forward pack from 2023."
As for the Eels, they have the likes of Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Nathan Brown and Junior Paulo all signed beyond next season.
Parramatta football manager Mark O'Neill wished Kaufusi well upon confirmation of his departure.
"Oregon is a good young man and a talented footballer who has been willing to work hard and contribute to the team in whatever role he has been given," O'Neill said.
"We would have loved to extend Oregon’s time with the Eels, but as we manage our roster over the coming seasons, that hasn’t been possible and Oregon has taken up an opportunity with another club.
"We look forward to Oregon continuing to make a positive contribution to the club in the 2022 season and we wish he and his partner all the best for 2023 and beyond."

600k per year seems overs. Struggle to believe we’re paying him that much.

The media were saying it was 3 year deal which they were wrong about so figures could likely be off too.

Assuming it's $600k over two years, AKA $300k per season.

300k I’m much more interested in than the 400k first rumoured. That seemed too high.

300k puts him at a comparable pay cheque to Takakai (assuming Talakai was our holdout which pretty sure he was, who was apparently on approx 300)

Two years is sensible. Can't see much point signing any player for longer these days.

mmmm this be a gamble, il back the Coach, but as someone on here said, most Eels supporters seem non plussed by his departure.

Bahahaha yeah huge gamble signing a guy who’s played all the junior rep teams and had nearly 50 games at 22.

There’s risk to any signing but feel more comfortable about this one than many others.

I wouldn’t pay attention to anything Eels fans say
