But that's not really the problem. The problem is that if he gets injured then we need to put a worse player on the bench to cover minutes somewhere. I'd rather have the best possible team for the prelim. Every other concern is far second.

We'll be completely short for big hard middle players if Taga, Gal, Paulo and JSL are missing. I just can't justify the risk.

as much as we need to win the semi, chances are neither of these guys will feature

i would like newtown in the grand final as well, and capewell/jsl give us a red hot chance of doing so
I get all of this ... I guess I just feel for the Newtown players. They bust their guts for 9 Months only to have their best players sat out in their biggest game of the year. I suppose NSW Cup teams are used to it by now though.

Could always play one and sit the other out I suppose.

As I said ... I would name the players and then decide on Friday whether both, one or neither actually play ... depending on the health of the returning first grade players (Gal, Taga, Paulo).

Surely the players themselves also would want to play?

You would think so - especially given that neither player is guaranteed to be in the 17 for the Sharks. If one of those players returns JSL has played his last game for the season.

what has naming them got to do with anything?

I just mean that today's Monday. They shouldn't make this decision until the end of the week. Those guys typically don't return to train with the Jets until Friday anyway - so make a call on Friday. We may know a lot more about Gallen after 4 more days of recovery. Surely if by Friday morning we are confident Gallen will play, and one of the other guys is possible, then sending JSL is an acceptable risk. We'd have to be pretty unlucky for Gallen to re-injure himself AND for JSL to get hurt AND for neither of the other guys to play. I think having your young players playing big minutes in meaningful games is an important part of their development.

Might be a good idea. I reckon Mounties are specials for that comp.
