honestly im still not sold on pollard. will make a good stop gap for challenor but i dont think he's gunna set the world on fire.

I'm not as high on him as others are but he has definitely improved some parts of his game since this time last season. Still some work to do.

We read/hear "higher ceiling" a bit when it comes to Pollard vs Niwhai but that's usually that's just looking at the school rep teams he made. Selection in those teams is highly situational; specifically being on a winning team or the player's age during year 12 are big factors (Niwhai was only 17).

At the same age Pollard was picked in Aussie Schoolboys Niwhai was already a regular in Flegg and had debuted in Cup... and he might have played even earlier had it not been for the Covid years. It makes sense to stick with the younger/cheaper player now and for Niwhai to move on for an opportunity, but relative to his age and situation Niwhai has always been ahead of Pollard, he is still better player currently, and Pollard may never overtake him (though for the Sharks' sake I hope he does).
