Trindall has played very well for us, the interesting thing is, when Hynes returns for us, does Trindall keep a spot on the bench as a utility or do we play 4 forwards & he just keeps the spot as 18th man?

For me Trindall has to be at least be on the bench. Yeah, we will be a bit light on in big forwards as far as the interchange goes assuming that Can McInnes should hold his spot, but Trindall has shown his value.

I think Moylan knows that he can't afford to play too many sub standard games in a row

I've always thought we've got to have a spot on the bench for a utility, not just 4 big forwards too. What happens if one of our back 5 go off injured for the game, we can't put a prop or 2nd rower in the backline. McIness can take a spot in the forward or backline though imo. We take the utility player off the bench in case of an injury, McIness can take the spot of our lost forward or utility as I said.

McInness is our utility. It is not ideal but Hynes could fill in anywhere in our back line. nikora is very versatile as well. McInnes could play as a half if needed for half a game.

He hasn't shown his value as a utility, he's an out and out half.

Utility is more important than ever, but imo our forward pack is our weakness and having four forwards on the bench makes up for it.

If someone goes down, Teig and Nikora can play centre at a pinch, and Graham in the halves if we're desperate. McInnis can obvs cover hooker for a game.

Horses for courses, depending on which Opposition we play, and injuries/suspensions in our own team IMHO. ie Even if Hynes/Trindall were both available, it is the right decision this week to go with 4 forwards on Bench against the Green Spuds.

There is no opposition we play where Tricky should be on the bench.

Given the new changes to the concussion protocol, I think the bench should be expanded from 17 to 18.

There needs to be some sort of relief for the clubs, if it has now become easier for a player to be wiped out for the game. Two head knocks in a match, and half your bench is gone. An extra man on the bench would allow a key play maker to take the field if someone like a Hynes, Moylan, Moses, Brown goes down. They are going to pull players from the field a lot more now imo.

They have an 18th man for that reason now, right?

I think that's only after 2 Hia's if I'm not mistaken, so if you lose someone like Hynes early, you wouldn't be able to replace him with a another key playmaker until a second head knock occurred, given that most teams are unlikely to carry an out and out playmaker on a 4 man bench

Two headknocks and 1/4 of your bench is gone because the 18th man activates

The consideration to account for multiple headknocks is already in place. The question is do you put your utility in a 17 or 18 jersey and that will be up to the coaches.

There is no opposition we play where Tricky should be on the bench.
Vs St George play Tricky on the bench

Hynes first game back, if he feels anything less than 100% in that injury throughout game pull him off

If Hynes is named and plays the Dragons game like he’s said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trindall gets a spot on the bench until at least our first bye.

Fitz might want that utility value to cover Hynes as precaution until Graham is back.

Not saying I want Trindall or even Graham back on our bench but I could see Fitz going that option

We have the bye in round 6. We play Saints and Warriors before then.

Given how well Tricky is playing I'd be tempted to not bring Nicho back until round 7.

The truth is if all goes to plan the fourth spot won't get much game time (none all season at Eels apparently).
So you pick to either provide an extra forward in case you have an issue there or an extra back/spine in case you have an issue there.
You could skew towards a forward who may have more use when game goes to plan, or back your other forwards in and skew towards cover.
Graham's best value to our team is he can play edge or middle but also 6, so when available he could be quite a good fit.

Then you hope you don't have any issues, or if you do that they match up with your best guess in the 17 jersey.

It probably makes sense to have a forward and a back between your 17 and 18 jersey, not two the same.

Whatever round we bring Hynes back I'd bench Trindall. The longer we leave him the further he falls behind in game fitness and the more chance he tries to overwork himself to make up for lost time, especially if we've had him as a healthy scratch 'just in case' for a few rounds.
