True but how much better can he get? I know it's unlikely but he could also regress.
It's not necessarily about improving, even recreating his form from this year will further increase his price through consistency. He has space to grow, specifically in his kicking game too. He also can officially become a rep player. Given the cap increase, and the premium on quality halves, I'll be surprised if he isn't a million dollar player in his next contract.

Hopefully he is which means he hasn't regressed.

This is great in theory, but the market decides. If you want the best players in your side, that's what they cost. I think it's worth it for the elite guys.
Might be good to think about it in the DCE way... what % of your cap would you be happy to give up for Nicho? If I remember correctly, DCE was 13%, which would equal... $1.3 ($1.6?) million in the increased cap.

If the cap goes up by at least $1m from last year (which is seeming more and more likely), $1m in 2024 isn't what it use to be
In footy or at home... I'm looking at you, craft beer. That Six String dark red IPA is the Nicho Hynes of the beer fridge, but Asahi is knocking at the door...

The market is infested with desperate idiots who shell out $1.25m for D Fifita, $900k+ on Brooks, Mbye & Josh Reynolds.

Yeah it’s only the desperate clubs that overspend. I’d be wanting to see another strong season from Hynes before splashing $1mil, but if he performs well again then he probably deserves it. Quality halfbacks are like gold

I mean sure, I can agree I wouldn't spend a mil on those guys, my point was more the best players cost that/are worth that. If you wanted to get Cleary, Teddy, Latrell to move, that's the price. With the cap changes, many more spine players will join that bracket, including Moses and likely Nicho. You either pay it or someone else will.

Not only the salary cap going up, but the Dolphins will continue to inflate the player market. There'll be plenty of player managers using the Dolphins to squeeze a few more dollars out of clubs.

Sure if you're trying to poach a star from a good environment you're gonna be paying an absolute premium plus some.

We got Nicho. The price to get a star out of somewhere is kinda irrelevant. But if he wants us to match stupid money that'll ruin our cap he can go chase it.

If someone threw $1.5m at Nicho now would you match that to keep him?

Those players are getting that money in their own system though. Moses has apparently just turned down a million dollar offer at para.

No I wouldn't pay 1.5, but that's 50% more than what I was suggesting. If Nicho was commanding a mil I'd pay it.

You think anyone else was offering Nicho the starting no.7 role?
I get you pay good money for proven performers, but you'll do better if you can identify and develop talent in a role like we're doing with Nicho.
I mean, look at our side now.
Ex-garbologist Talakai to centre from 2nd rower. Killing it.
No-legs Moylan into the 6. Killing it (maybe that's cheating a bit, but he had been pushed into fullback).
The-least-good-Macca McInness to lock from hooker. Killing it.
El Nicho at 7 from fullback. Killing it... and only getting better.
Ten-minute Trindall to NSW Cup from first grade benchwarmer. Still standing after a TKO... ;)

I'm pretty sure we're on the same page
