Official Nicho Hynes

Nichos biggest issue has always been, and it was blatantly clear in the preliminary, his mental state. If he can fix up his mental demons the skies the limit.

You could tell last few weeks that he temporarily shook off his demons as we were flying under the radar and we had a backs against the wall mentality. However the spot light was too strong in the prelim, and he was back to just shuffling the ball (until the final 2min)

He needs to see a sports psychologist (or change his existing) and get this fixed up in the off-season . Otherwise, I think time to shuffle him on

Not convinced that is the case at all.
But Nicho is never going to shake this narrative, and those subscribed to it don’t want to let it go.

I think there is more to it with nicho and dont feel rugby league is the most important thing in his life based on his personal life where as some players just bleed the sport.

AFB has cut short multiple contracts due to ‘family’ and admits to not concentrating in games. Mental midget?

What evidence is there of this for the prelim?

He created one of the tries from putting Burns through and was a great Paps tackle away from being a hero after putting Nikora through.

I think this shuffling the ball around / overawed by the moment etc stuff is nonsensical and lazy.

He had moments to forget, as did literally everyone that night. He was and we were good without being great.

To that end as well about the halves playing both sides and not combining, I dunno what game you guys are watching.

Halves need to be positioned on each side to some degree, but also connect at both sides - which is exactly what we do, and do well.

It’s literally a week removed from a game where we scored two tries from the halves connecting.

On the play where Trindall running an obstruction, Nicho was out the back ready for the ball.

Get the **** outta here with your reasonable analysis.

I’d say about 80% of the time we position the halves on their own sides. You’re right though but we don’t link them up enough.

When they’re isolated, their role gets reduced to either hitting the fullback or playing short to the second-rower, which makes us predictable. As soon as the defence rushes the first receiver, Hynes or Trindall ends up having to go it alone, and both become far less effective.

Hynes is much better suited as a second receiver — either running at a retreating defence or throwing that final pass.
Trindall, on the other hand, is strongest when he’s organising and linking the play to his own second receiver.

The problem is nicho is the best 7 and 6 in our team

Its been the case for 4 seasons.

Nicho (and the rest of our attacking players) are most dangerous with momentum behind us.

The stop-start nature of that Ash Klein performance played into Melbournes hands more than us. Not blaming the ref for the loss but the way the game flowed affected our potential on the night.

In the case of Nicho, he wSnt **** and he wasnt as **** as Fox etc want to make out. He put burns through that hole for our 2nd try. He was involved in plenty of shifts thT created space etc. he has some errors, but **** happens.

To be honest, the club has done Nicho a disservice by signing him and handing him the 7 jersey from the get go, with no real guidance. We need a high quality halves coach either full or part time. Not dis on Holdsworth, but he dont cut it.

Whether its bringing Joey in a day or 2 a week or Matty Johns if he was keen. Doubt Cronk would. Alternatively there Noddy, a guy who IMO played well above his weight and could really pass on some knowledge to our halves on game management and kicking.

Is there any reason why he wasn’t credited with a line break assist for the Burns play?

If I was guessing, I'd say because Burns didn't fully break the line (a defender in the line caught him).

Looked like a line break assist/line break to me though.

He's 29.

He ain't getting better.

Hynes has been under kicking the ball for years - you can tell he isn't putting 100% into his kicks and is holding himself back. Either that or he has one of the weirdest looking kicking actions going around - it always look like his is stabbing the kick, not kicking through the ball with full force

Either his leg still ain't right or he doesn't have full confidence in it anymore

This is my explanation for what we saw in 2022 compared to now because a clearing kick isn't so much about placement or timing with chasers as it is just booting the thing as far down field as possible which is what we needed but didn't get.

Storm got to begin their sets with a 10-20m head start which meant we were getting to our 5th tackle and kicking from even further back our next set with the ball and the cycle continued until there was a penalty or other stoppage to break things up

He did nail one a few weeks ago though

We should have been relying on Trindall more for kicking like against the Raiders but Storm rushed both of our halves on the 5th and maybe the way our sets played out Trindall wasn't in a good enough position so it went to Hynes

Still think we could have adjusted better throughout the game
