Official Nicho Hynes

Nicho took first one on the left in trial then Trindall took next one on the right, wondered if it was a ‘give it to the stronger kicker from each side’ situation but obviously not.

Have to trust the better percentage guy will have the job I guess
Yeah then given Nicho's strain I wondered if that was the reason Tricky kicked after. Could be being mindful of that for a few weeks/not taking any chances.

Thought he has a good first half and looked dangerous running. Would have liked some more from him in he second.

Has anything been said about the goal kicking?
Yeh, I actually think Nicho is the better or more reliable of the two but I guess that’s not the case in the training they are doing for Trindall to be the kicker.

Nicho last season, for the most part was a dead eye dick. Can’t remember what he kicked but at one stage, he was the best kicker percentage wise or close to it across the whole comp.
I get less nervous of him missing easy attempts than Trindall, he’s missed some easy sort of ones the past few seasons, obviously the misses are a concentration thing but it’s something that has me edgy if he’s our kicker this season.

I too would prefer for Nicho to be the primary goalkicker. But if Trindall manages to kick in the low 80s throughout the season, I'll probably change my tune.

However Tricky's constant burping before taking kicks is rather unsettling. 😀

Nicho is 100% the better goalkicker

I prefer Trindall goal kicking, and take some of those big pressure kicks off Nicho, just let him worry about footy. Like in the finals last year he was 2/4.

Trindall looks a more natural kicker. Nicho obviously better at practicing, but it feels like his side-line kicks barely make it over the posts. As he gets older and injuries build up, that will just get harder.

Nicho kicked at 86% last season.

50% in finals though. And 0% on match-tying conversions.
Tricky has had his share of bad misses too.

At this stage Nicho is definitely the more accurate of the two. I imagine he'll get kicking duties back once they're not so worried about his legs.

I dunno if that was pressure or just his technique was off, sort of like a golf swing, when you’re on, you’re on.
Nicho, for the best part of the season had his groove last year & had a fair streak going there for a while where he was hardly missing from the sidelines.

Yeah I'm not trying to bag him. I just think it's a simple way to keep the pressure off. Trindall looks to me like he would forget a missed kick by the time he's back to halfway.

That's very harsh. Very small sample size and that missed conversion from the sideline after the siren, come on.

86%, crazy we're not using him unless injured.

Yeah agree wasn't unhappy. Just would have liked to see him go after it a bit more in the last 30. Tricky was going well though so the balance works.

Do you think he has? Nicho kicked in the trial? Seems odd to do that if he wasn't going to be the kicker.
There were a couple of occasions I noticed Nicho calling for the ball only for Brailey to go the other way, so I don't think it was through lack of trying. Would have like to see both him and Tricky combine a little better, but with a limited offseason together, hopefully that comes.

NRL Physio had a tweet after the trial game saying he had an adductor injury. Said he'd be able to play through without too many dramas, but would probably affect the goalkicking. Maybe just being cautious, especially in light of a couple of big plane trips?

Doesn't really prove my point at all, but out of interest:

2024 Finals: Nicho 2/4
2023 Finals: Nicho 2/3 (Trindall 0/1)
2022 Finals: Nicho 7/7
2021 Finals: Nicho 4/6 (for Melbourne vs Sharks). Trindall 2/4

Spot on.

And this talk of “take the pressure off him”

Hes our million dollar man, theres always going to be pressure on him
I think people are saying take the pressure off him because he’s struggled multiple times with pressure
