Official Newtown Jets + Sharks Pathways 2026

Is Watman there to stay or in due to injuries. Thought the range who is usually there has been going good but also know Blake has some wraps

Watman is only there because of injuries. He has been very average this year. He got dropped during sg ball.

DJ Tevi is named on the bench for fhe Pirates.

I hadn’t seen him announced but assume he is a new signing for the Sharks. Was with the Dolphins before I think. Turning 19. Went to the footy school near me. My son plays against his younger brother.

Schedule this year has been awful

Even number of teams no reason to even have byes
The NSWRL reduced the amount of actual games from 24 to 21 in jersey flegg. Assume cup is the same. Both comps have an even number. It wasn’t to run inline with NRL. I don’t know why they did. It’s stupid.

6–all at half time vs Bears. Try to Lavender, line break was by Puru, and found Lavender in support

We don’t know why they reduced the amount of games but we do know that matching up the round numbers with the NRL is their intention. Both the NRL and NSWRL have said this is intentional. PVL has even bragged about what a great achievement it was.

So… if they want to reduce the amount of games while aligning with the NRL it is not possible to just start the season later or finish it earlier. They had to add a heap of extra weekends off.

Q Cup doesn’t pander to the NRL. Odd number of teams so they need to have byes - and they also run some split rounds due to geography, but mostly they just start the season a bit later and the finals a bit earlier. Round numbers don’t match NRL and they play a longer finals system than NSW but they don’t need as many byes or have any full weekends off.

Any time NSWRL do something which seems strange for their own comps, you can bet “because the NRL wants it that way” is at least part of the answer.

Yeah - hasn't been a great year for him, but the whole SG Ball team was pretty bad until the last few games. Hopefully he figures it out.

I'd say they were just giving squad players a run against the Fijians. There are other factors at obviously (training etc.) but I wouldn't say any of Watman, Mack or Kite have been going so well for the Pirates that they forced their way in.

Grantham is a bit different (training with the NRL team and hasn't played for the Pirates) but his appearances in Flegg before that game weren't particularly impressive either.

I can you tell that no one was getting a run because it was Fiji. It was because five current players were out injured or suspended.

You don't need to reduce games to try and match up with the NRL. It actually makes it harder. That's not why they did it. The start, finish and weekends off are the same as last year but unlike last year they have all the byes.

That's not what I said.

What I said was that they are committed to aligning the schedules, so when they made an unrelated decision to reduce games it adds byes and that exacerbates the stupid-ness of the draw (or in your words "makes it harder").

I don't claim to know why they reduced games,
