Official Newtown Jets + Sharks Pathways 2026

Bit of a soccer focus in this one but very good.

TL;DR version...

  1. We suck at talent ID and overestimate our ability at predicting future success.
  2. We often do things that develop performance RIGHT NOW, and neglect things that develop skills and abilities that help us in the future.
  3. We overestimate technical and organized coaching, and under appreciate the value of play and unstructured learning.

I know you have all been hanging out for some graphs. This seems like a good one for a bye week.

Sharks players by when they became regulars in Cup/Flegg.

A few notes.
- Players born in 1998-2000 played Flegg as u20
- Some players born 2000-2003 paths to were heavily impacted by Covid (Colquhoun, Vea'ila & Iro are the big ones)
- For Players born 2004 or later it's a level playing field.

Top right is young guns. Bottom left is late bloomers.

Enjoy.

Assume bold is NRL player and you're just off Ronaldo after he lost the battle with Mark last round?

Good bye week for fhe Jets. They are 4th. Teams #1, #3 and #5 all lost.

They play #3 next week and #1 plays #5. Great opportunity consolidate a spot in the top 4.

NSW Cup team is not named yet.

Flegg plays 11am Saturday at home. Callum Grantham is playing fullback

Will also be Blake Watman’s Fkegg debut.

The team list link works now.

Hosking not named. McCulloch at 13. Everything else as expected.

Hiroti ans Hassett likely drop out and get replaced by Dixon and Nadenic.

A handful of regulars also not named in Flegg. Might have a few of them on standby for the Jets. I reckon we will see a bit of re-shuffling in both team lists on the day.

Can’t see Wilson playing 80 either, so either Cacciotti comes in or one of Jones/Pollard play some hooker.

Jets coach finally seen that McCullough is actually Simon Mannering with long hair and has given him his rightful jersey.

Just ignore all the missing players...

And the best bit is if he plays well and you’ve been calling for him to start in NRL or whatever you just pat yourself on the back and claim you must have been right all along

and there no proof the coach and his own effort had anything to do with him improving.
Same as Iro, who off the back of a good NRL season we know never had a defensive issue in cup (despite being able to see it then, and see it back now)

You don't even need to see it. Fitzgibbon has given multiple accounts in interviews about how Iro had some areas which needed improvement and then praised Iro for making targets to improve, doing extras on both video and in those technical areas.

I'm curious if he's dropped or if its an injury. Dropping the sitters make me think dropped
Some whacky stuff going on with team lists this week in general so I'm not assuming anything.

That'd require you to value Fitz's opinion of a player over your own, which not everyone does

NSW Cup Ladder is even more cooked than the NRL ladder because of byes.

The Warriors were 11th coming in to this weekend with one less win than 4th.
