Official Newtown Jets + Sharks Pathways 2026

After a penalty and two set restarts, Tigers score under the posts. Was definitely against the run of play.

Sharks 8-6.

13 mins to HT.

After a Tigers error, Ashton Simmonds scores after a good backline move.

It’s out wide again and Grantham converts this time!

14-6 Sharks.

I was just going to write a post praising our defence when one Tigers player beat about four of our guys to score out wide. Horrible defence.

Conversion missed. 14-10 Sharks with 2 mins to HT.

Half time

Sharks 14-10.

I think the score flatters the Tigers, we look much stronger. A couple of defensive lapses have let them in.

We are making good metres, look good in attack with ball movement and apart from those two tries we’ve looked pretty solid defensively.

Dellow looks good, he’s definitely nothing flash but he’s solid, and hardworking in both attack and defence. Whalebone’s had some strong carries along with Piutau at prop and both centres Granthum and Laine-Sietu look good.

But for me the standout is Yuri Hromow. He’s been great on the edges with strong evasive running.

Hopefully we can go on with it in the second half.

Ordinary result. Looked pretty flat, and every time we made a break it seemed to get called back for a forward pass or a penalty. Missed Hohepa Puru, and I hate seeing Ford sitting on the bench most of the game (he came on with about 25 to go, Pollard to hooker and then Pollard replaced by Berrell). Berrell sin binned at the end for tackling the kicker, he knew he stuffed up
They needed the ref who always lets Galvin's passes go.

Just five minutes in and Tigers score. Multiple six agains not helping.

Conversion is out wide and misses.

14-all

Sharks break the deadlock with Gray’s second try from a scrum on their 10 metre line after a great in and away move from Laine-Sietu.

Grantham misses.

18-14 Sharks with 18 mins to go.

Tigers in again, poor defence on our line.

Tigers 26 Sharks 18

Just five minutes to go.

That’s the game. Very disappointing

FT 26-18 Tigers. ☹️

Pretty much outplayed in that second half tigers seem to have all the ball and we had none.

Very disappointing result but Tigers were third on the table so I think it was a pretty good effort all round.

Yeah disappointing. Plenty of hot potato and some spaghetti arms in the second half.

Only highlight the try from Veai'la.

Poor Taj Ford.

He had 2-3 great plays called back, so the only one that makes the highlight reel is the intercept trying to force something late.

Two other things I'd say from this game:
- I thought both back rowers were underwhelming. They have both been great all year but had some forgettable moments. On to next week.
- The Pollard to hooker experiment might help his development in the long run but it didn't help the team on the day. I think the team goes better with two actual hookers in the 17.

WHAT THE **** GEORGE.

WHAT THE **** GEORGE.
With Hohepa in the team he covers it for a bit. No Hohepa means someone else does it.

With no inside info, my take on this is that Taj Ford deserves a spot in the 17 ahead of Kobie Wilson and ask needed to be there in case Ison didn’t play 80. Ford doesn’t play hooker and Berrell can’t play 80 anymore they had to come up with a plan for someone else to do it.

Ford was really good and sparked the attack. With a couple of calls/bounces their way it could have been 22-20 not long after he came on.

I really like Taj Ford's game. He reminds me a lot of Nicho in the Q Cup.

If I have to guess who is more likely to play 50 games of NRL it would be Pollard because he has the more quantifiable skillset - but I think Ford is better at a wider range of stuff while also being pretty good at everything Pollard excels at.

The good news for us is the Sharks have both of them :)

"quantifiable skillset - wider range of stuff"

Wow. You've manage to sound very technically astute and wishy washey in the same sentence. Well done!

I would move Niwhai, but biased in that because I want Pollard and Ford playing in the halves together.

Or just ford playing 80mins in general tbh

Haha yeah. Sorry. I could do detailed but I was trying to put it in fan speak. How's this?

Pollard demonstrates a range of skills that align with what fans say halfbacks should be like. Ford also demonstrates these same skills, but less often (presumably because he is always playing with one of Pollard or Puru).

Additionally, Ford demonstrates a range skills that align with what fans say five-eighths and fullbacks should be like.

Lol. Can you put that into Hynes and Tricky context and who should be 6/7?
