Official Newtown Jets + Sharks Pathways 2026

@SF A few more to add to your signings list. Karlos Hati-Ross (turning 19 this year, SG Ball) is confirmed signed for 2026. He played 2 games for SG Ball last year and was 18th man once.

Viliame Koroitamana is signed until the end of 2026. Also turning 19. He played every game last year in SG Ball, mostly from the bench.
(He is Ratu Viliame Koroitamana on team lists).

Elijah Paea is signed until the end of 2026. I think he is turning 20 so Flegg, but I am not 100% on that. He played 2 games up in Flegg last season and also 10 for De La Salle.

I don't have any info, but I expect these are still squad games competing for spots. The pre-xmas games were squad games and I believe there were some players cut after that.

Not just fringe players in these trials. Moreso the squad without the top 10 or so. There were some players in the pre-xmas trial who I expect are in the squad already (Truong, Wardrobe and others).

Also re: our discussion on keeping Dellow "down", based on the draw I'd expect all of the best u19's to play at least the first 5 games. Decision point comes after that. Maybe round 3 Flegg Dellow or Lester get on to the bench since SG Ball have a bye.

Overlaying SG Ball and Fleggs draw looks like this. Flegg have a bye in round 1.

SG Ball / Flegg
Round 1
Round 2
Round 3
Round 4
Round 5
Round 6 / Round 2
Bye / Round 3
Round 8 / Round 4
Round 9 / Round 5
FW1 / Round 6
FW2 / Round 7
FW3 / Round 8
GF / Round 9
All those players like Dellow etc will play out the SG Ball season and then go up to Flegg, not sooner. The sharks are pretty systematic in their development and moving players through. They will have a crack at trying to win the SG Ball comp. Dellow will be captain.

Yeah agreed. That's been the standard. Was just a conversation above with Tiger Shark where he was suggesting Dellow staying in SG Ball was "going down". I'm with you. Dellow staying SG Ball is not a demotion. The SG Ball comp is really strong and they will keep the best players until the end. Maybe that bye week a couple get a run in Flegg though.

The point of the previous post was to point out that somewhere between Flegg round 6 and round 10 is when those players will go up (depending on when the SG Ball team finishes up).

Xerri in 2018 is the only one I am aware of since the NYC finished who has played the full Flegg season while still SG Ball eligible. Considering they asked for permission to play him in the NRL that year I'd say he is the exception rather than the rule (also new coach on board since then).

No players have gone up to flegg in recent years until ball was finished. I don’t anticipate this year will be any different. Flegg have their own 30+ player squad.
When you say players, do you mean SG Ball eligible players ?

There aren't any edge cases where they have played a handful of Flegg the year before and then stayed in Flegg ? I'm sure I recall players that have done this but happy to be challenged as none are coming to mind straight away so you're probably right.

Yeah. That’s how read it. Same as I have been saying,

Definitely no edge cases since Fitz arrived, COVID years maybe. Nobody except Xerri before that.

But…

Since 2018 there has never been a weekend where SG Ball have the bye and Flegg have a game. It’s possible someone gets a game. Also possible they don’t.

Were a few games on today?
Any news
Very wet so some pretty sloppy footy.

SG Ball lost 12-8.

They played 3x20 minute thirds. Played most of the well known kids in the first 20, swapped the whole team for the second 20 and then chopped and changed at various stages.

Still none of the players who are training with NRL. Also no Wardrobe or Garner.

Starting halves were Feki left / Challlenor right. Neither got in to the game much because all the errors. Second group was Isdale left and someone I don’t know on the right. Similar build to Isdale (small). Isdale has a nice boot. The other boy put on some nice passes on the right edge.

A few notable performance…

- Stepic (first group) was strong in defence.
- Curran (first group) is a massive human.
- Beckett (hooker in second group) I thought was strong in attack. Good clean service, which isn’t easy in those conditions.
- Some good yardage carries from some outside backs in the second group. In particular Beattie and also two more kids I couldn’t identify (#41 I thought was very good in yardage).
- Truong was in the second group. Was solid.

Harold Matthews game was even wetter and with more dropped ball. Massive puddles on the field but then. I thought they were going to snorkels at one stage. Game was called off after 27 minutes with Wests leading 4-0. Could barely see any grass by then.

Curran has some wraps on him I believe but don’t know much about him

Did you watch the games ?

Yeah mate. Those are my words. I didn’t copy snd paste them.

With Curran, he is just so much bigger and stronger than his peers so is able to dominate opponents his own age - especially in school footy. The test for him will be in a couple of years when he grows in to his body a bit more and the opposition gets bigger and stronger.

I haven’t seen/heard much hype about him really, other than Dan and Terry - so people are maybe taking that on board. I’m not convinced that those guys watch the games though. Curran scored a few tries from close range so I reckon they love him because he is big and shows up on highlights.

I know that he (and Challenor) made the u16’s city/county in 2024. I think that is a better gauge than school reps at that age. He’s a good prospect.

Souths have confirmed that Lajuan Vito is part of their NSW Cup pre-season squad (as per Samshark's post earlier).

Te Wehi Waitere (Sharks Flegg 2024) is also in the squad.

I guess we'd need similar sorts of posts to show otherwise but at the moment it seems like lower grades are haemorrhaging players haha
