Official Newtown Jets + Sharks Pathways 2026

thats a big contract for a young fella looks a good size for a 5/8

growing up we used to play against same aged group south auckland teams that often had more hair on their face than we had on our balls

But you didn’t have to compare before every game!

What position?
The boy I know? Centres mostly. Was in the Qld 15’s team last year but got a bad injury. Is back now and playing junior reps 17’s this year. Some say he’s the best among that group. He’ll get signed by someone soon I’d say.

The ones signed already are middles. One is in the Dragons SG Ball who the Sharks beat yesterday.

My son will probably play against Brain in school footy this year. I’ll give an update if/when that happens.

I say “probably” because even though they are only 1 year apart my son will play opens and for the footy schools they often leave 16yo’s in the grade 10 comp. Non footy schools don’t have 300 players to pick from so all kids 15 turning 16 play up.

I stumbled this one today. It’s a couple of years old but still very relevant.

It’s not actually about Kyle Laybutt. He’s just used to build the narrative around.

It’s about how all teams are trying to copy Penrith, and how that is both unrealistic for most teams because of budget/geography and is also at odds with what is actually good for the game and for pathways.

Long article but worth it.

Ladder update for junior reps at the "kind of" half way point. It's a 9 round comp but the Sharks teams each have a bye to come, so only play 8 games total.

4 games in and both teams are are a disappointing 1-3 but with a decent for/against compared to the teams around them.

Finals are top 8.

SG Ball
The red teams here have had their bye already.

Top 6 are all on 6 points or more and have their byes to come. Sharks are chasing the Raiders and Knights, who also have a bye to come - but also play each other and have tough runs home.

Very much still in it but the draw gets tough. Run home is team #1, #3, bye, #5, #7.

7th - 4 Pts - Raiders (+4)
8th - 4 Pts - Knights (-10)

9th - 4 Pts - Bulldogs (-22)
10th - 4 Pts - Warriors (-22)
11th - 4 Pts - Tigers (-28)

12th - 2 Pts - Sharks (-17)

Harold Matthews

It's going to be tough for these boys to sneak in. Warriors have had their bye but have also had a game postponed so if they win that one it means the Sharks are 4 points back.

Manly are probably higher than they should be though. Have had an easy draw to date and a bye already. Definitely catchable.

Easier run home though. #9, #17, bye, #1, #10

6th - 6 Pts - Sea Eagles (+6)
7th - 6 Pts - Steelers (+2)
8th - 4 Pts - Warriors (+14) ** one game in hand **
9th - 4 Pts - Roosters (+2)
10th - 4 Pts - Raiders (0)
11th - 4 Pts - Dragons (-30)
12th - 2 Pts - Magpies (+8)

13th - 2 Pts - Sharks (-2)

Obviously it’s old news as draw has been out a while but annoying that both Flegg and Jets have Rd 1 Byes

Thought that was an interesting one!

any up and coming wing prospects. Our depth after Stonestreet is definately a weakness in the squad. Most of our promising juniors appear to be centres.

Kristian Dixon is probably the next one up… solid but unspectacular. Scored plenty of tries at one stage.

All those young centres are capable of playing wing.

I think the next pure winger is Pharrell Gray who played in the Eels trial. Tall and strong, reasonably fast but not lightning. Richard Whalebone also in the mix.

I think wing is a position that can be recruited too
