Official Newtown Jets + Sharks Pathways 2026

Assuming he returns JJBM easily stays on bench or in above scenario may well start over Felix.

Unless Jets bring in someone their bench could use a lot of the most Cup ready couple of Araullo, Challenor, Sele, Dellow, White, Vito
You'd like to see a couple get a few chances, but like you say, a lot might be more than they are quite up to yet (happy to be proven wrong!)

Coutts left as I recall as the other inhouse second rower that could have possibly taken that spot. At the moment it appears to default to Hosking, especially with Puru and McCullough as locks already. Again though, could bring someone in. Leiu would have been good to keep here as a starter second row or experienced bench forward option.
Yeah this sums it over. Lock/prop I don't think they care much at Newtown. The one game McCullough started was at prop, and there were plenty of times throughout the year when Puru and Hosking were on together as middles. Could just be going along the same lines as Fitz and leading with 2 bigger bodies in the first 20. After that middles are middles.

Issue with Hosking is more he appears to be our second best edge player outside the top 19, rather than you couldn't possibly run him and Puru/McCullough at same time in the middle

With Nikora, Wilton, Burns and Talakai it's not like we are too thin there, they are just all in the top side

Yeah I understand. Jets are a bit lean there I mean. Not the Sharks. I just think that when he plays in the middle Hosking is always one of the Jets best, but when he plays on the edge he is just kind of OK. A full pre-season and 8 weeks playing the same spot could change that though.

Crossle and Nademic training with Newtown, unknown contract status
Raymond unknown, mighten play at all
Vito is with souths
Coutts is with dragons
William Charles went back home to the bush 9 mths ago
Plenty of other flegg players not mentioned in these pages too.

Training with the jets you mean? Yeah that makes sense. Discussion above was just guys I thought might be bench middle options.

Thanks again for the info. It’s great.

Interesting. I believe the Pirates only had one team this year (Over 35s League Tag). I saw they have a new board with a few Sharks connections.

But a good move by the club and JRL and Sharks to use this to resurrect them. They have one of the best fields locally. And De La has enough going on

I hadn't seen anything announcing him as a signing. Played for Norths in Brisbane who are a Dolphins feeder and for that age group are basically a rep team playing club footy. He's a big unit. Played right edge. I'm always excited to see Qld boys join the Sharks. Hope he kills it.

Pretty bold of them to choose our 3 Aus Schoolboys as SG Balls players to watch

Yep I assume the three HM players to watch were given by the coach too. They might be the players that least need watching :)

Elijah Thaiday-Shin (nephew of Sam) is a member of the SG Ball summer squad. He's a second rower who can also play centre and wing. Will have to wait to the final squad announcement to see if he sticks around.

Harold Matthews and SG Ball have trial games against Wests Magpies this Saturday at Kirkham Oval in Camden/Elderslie.

SG Ball at 5:00pm. HM's at 6:30pm.

There are also four other Sharks junior reps games.

- Lisa Fiola v Wests Tigers at 3:30pm (u17's girls)
- Andrew Johns Cup v Wests Tigers at 3:30pm (county / regional U16's boys)
- Tarsha Gale v Wests Tigers at 5:00pm (u19's girls)
- Lauria Daley Cup v Wests Tigers at 6:30pm (county / regional U18's boys)

Not sure whether those are daylight savings time or not. Those are the times that show for me here in Qld.

Will these squads mostly be the fringe players looking to get spots ?

I don't have any info, but I expect these are still squad games competing for spots. The pre-xmas games were squad games and I believe there were some players cut after that.

Not just fringe players in these trials. Moreso the squad without the top 10 or so. There were some players in the pre-xmas trial who I expect are in the squad already (Truong, Wardrobe and others).

Also re: our discussion on keeping Dellow "down", based on the draw I'd expect all of the best u19's to play at least the first 5 games. Decision point comes after that. Maybe round 3 Flegg Dellow or Lester get on to the bench since SG Ball have a bye.

Overlaying SG Ball and Fleggs draw looks like this. Flegg have a bye in round 1.

SG Ball / Flegg
Round 1
Round 2
Round 3
Round 4
Round 5
Round 6 / Round 2
Bye / Round 3
Round 8 / Round 4
Round 9 / Round 5
FW1 / Round 6
FW2 / Round 7
FW3 / Round 8
GF / Round 9
