Official Newtown Jets + Sharks Pathways 2025

I wouldn’t say it’s a huge error at all. Those two are still pretty inexperienced compared with the others. They may be guns of the future and it’s certainly exciting but no big error in leaving them out.

Haha no it’s an error

They have Liam Challenor at 10 who’s less experienced and not made the rep teams those two have had.

Dellows was also ranked no 1 prospect at one point

That was my first thought too, but then I thought their criteria might have been those that have at least played Flegg.

Looks like Dellow played one more Flegg game than Challenor though, so I think you'd have to have him in there somewhere.

Different Challenor mate. Alex played Flegg and Liam is the halfback they mentioned

And Dellows played the last 4 or 5 weeks in Flegg

No big deal but he’s a real talent and we’ll be seeing lots of him

Ahh yeah my bad, got my wires crossed there. Ignore me.

Rugby League Outlaws have done an amazing job of compiling highlights of some of the young guns. Even if you can debate the rankings

Nice work boys.
Some great up and comers for us.

There are a few backs so with a potentially young backline already, we will likely end up losing ones we want to keep from 2027 onwards!

Potential
Ison
Ronnie
KL
Michael G
Sammy

Our young forwards have a chance to progress but Nikora Williams and Preston in the centres will sit behind KL and MG is my prediction and with them being so young will be in their way.

Yeah will be a few tough decisions you'd think, I dont particularly rate Nikora Williams that high, not sure why exactly but haven't been that impressed with him. Seems slow and bit unconventional in his movements. Obviously has a good junior pedigree and the club rates him so see how he progresses.

You are right, can't see us keeping them all. Iro is 25 so he's with us for a while you'd think, unless the form of the others are too hard to ignore ?
And MG is next man up.

This was Williams and Preston's first year in Flegg, they might play Flegg again next year and then a year or so in NSW cup unless they are fast tracked so not a problem for a few years.

Could see Williams going to back row potentially one day. He's not small height wise, does need to fill out a bit

It also gives you a lot of flexibility cap-wise in the centres. If Prestyn ends up killing it and could be on half the next contract of Iro or less, you can potentially make the fiscal decision if it allows you to strengthen elsewhere.

Alternatively, you don't stress about losing a young gun because you have an elite centre pairing.

Either way, it's a good spot to be in.

Yeah exactly, and knowing when to move a player on and bring up someone is something the strong clubs do regularly.

Just listen to sharkcast where Sam ran over the list with Dan.

Paraphrasing, but he said "full disclosure, Dellow was a canditate for the list but it was much easier to look back at highlights of Challenor than watch full games back for Dellow for his good hit ups etc".

Rugby League Outlaws list:

10. Liam Challenor
9. Nikora Williams
8. Prestyn Laine-Sietu
7. Taj Ford
6. Dylan Coutts
5. Sam McCullough
4. Riley Pollard
3. Felix Faatili
2. Liam Ison
1. Michael Gabrael

I listened to the Sharkcast recap, and it did make me wonder about my Top 10. It's hard to balance who's next up vs long term potential.

Overall I can't disagree with the list too much. I think Grantham would be well ahead of Challenor in the halves. And Dellow seems like he should be in there, but I'm not sure who I'd push out. He also didn't really feature in the recent PNG game.

Pollard and Coutts are good prospects, but need to work on their defence. Pollard is slightly hyped-up... Ford looked much more impressive for the Jets this year. But I can see that Pollard has the long-term hopes, particularly due to his kicking game.

Overall, the next few years will be a good test for the Sharks Academy and the local schools (Endeavour + Cronulla). Are we training players to just dominate the junior reps, or will they translate to NRL players. It will be interesting to see.

Listening to that Sharkcast recap Dan mentioned Dellows not being on the list and was brought up by people. To that he responded that he was looking at attacking footage and so I'm assuming Dellows being a lock and more of a workhorse didn't have enough attacking footage to clip together.

So sounds like their selection criteria was who had the most/best attacking footage - it's their list and they can use what ever criteria they like but personally I feel it's pretty flawed because it's not a true representation of who our most promising juniors are.

End of the day, was still good content, especially during the off season and applaud the effort they put in. It's also created some nice healthy discussions.

Be great to revisit this list in 5 years time and see how they've all developed.

Hopefully a better hit rate than what Snowman's opinion of cabbage was 5 years ago.

Why is he called that ?

And yeah that was a terrible take. Always loved those who thought Jayden was the better one
I think calling him 'cabbage' was just Snowmans way of saying 'useless'

It was actually more a running joke / attempt to get a reaction from forums / social media etc.

Snowy has always quietly like Blayke and knew he had plenty of talent etc - just thought he should have being playing better a few years ago

What does an ideal Jet's team look like next year from a development standpoint for us? Assuming there are no major changes in either side and no further injuries?

I believe Ison, Pollard, Gabrael and Faitilli are all still Flegg eligible, but I don't see any value in them playing down there. Not sure about McCullough but I'd say the same for him.

1. Ison
2. Dixon
3. Vea'ila
4. Gabrael
5. Hiroti
6. Puru
7. Pollard
8. Faitilli
9. Berrell
10. Hau Tapuha
11. Coutts
12. Pickering
13. Puru

14. Ford (or Rajab if Ford is better off developing in Flegg)
15. Fearnley
16. McCullough
17. Hassett/Clark

I'd imagine whoever misses out on First grade ( likely Burns/BHU) would be 18th man, but if not, they'd obviously start in this side too.

It's a very strong side. We could really do with a great season from an injury perspective across both grades to see everyone develop and have some pressure put on the first grade side.

I’m surprised all those 4 are still Flegg eligible as they’ve been in that comp a few years now unless they started young

I don’t see any value in them playing Flegg anymore, they all need to be full time Jets - which may be at the detriment to how good they go next year but priority is there development and they’re too good for Flegg

I think Hasset will start
