If you have to rely on bombing to your wingers to win footy games you are probably not a very good team.

It’s a tactic that might get you a few extra wins to move you from 12th to 9th, but it’s not going to make you a contender.

Chad to Stapo was a pretty good bomb combo back in the day, but the team was garbage.

I can remember a time when all anyone did was complain about how much we used to kick to the wings. It was boring and not all that effective, just a roll of the dice really.

That Xavier Coates dude was lethal under the high ball last night, gave the Manly winger an absolute bath.

To be fair, the Manly winger wasn't interested in leaving the ground, ever. Coates was good but made to look great.

Same. When Mitch Healey was sending them through to Richie Barnett (thanks for the reminder HB), they were scoffing and calling us the 'bombers'.

Whatever gets the points on the board, it doesn't matter on the final scorecard.

it is a boring play but so is kicking it over the deadball line or getting tackled on the 5th

some teams have gotten alot better at defending it but it still has value if your wingers are up to the task, even if it doesn't bring points just keeping the back 3 on their toes and mixing things up a bit
land it just before the tryline and you can also force a repeat set, something even with SJ & Chad we would do in 2019

I’m happy to just see the team run it on the last in the attacking zone. Can create something or be tackled 1m out and back it up with a big defensive set to keep the pressure on. I feel like our team would give up a 7 tackle set for sure trying to kick to our wings

yes probably mate, they just need to weight the kicks conservatively, if it falls short of the line or winger you can still potentially make something good of it (although sometimes a defender can intercept it and run the length lol). Chad and SJ were doing it last year even if it wasn't a direct kick to our wingers

there was a season under Flanno or maybe it was during his sit down year I can't remember exactly where we started to run it on the last tackle quite regularly and it was very effective and dangerous and worse case the opposition start their set near their line. I swear we defend 20m restart 7 tackle sets about as bad as any team. nearly always soon give away a penalty or concede a a line break lol

eventually and if he recaptures that fantastic form he had but he has shown good signs of making a go of it. but im not expecting excellence straight off that bat or for him to do wonders till he builds his games back up but if he does its a bonus

seriously a signing like this 7 or 8 years ago would have had us creaming

Doesn’t have to be every play - but how tall the bloke is shouldn’t be a deciding factor in whether you pick/sign him. Would rather a unspectacular/boring bloke (Goodwin?) type winger over an acrobat with dicks for fingers like Nene.

Halves kicking bombs a few times a game - sure. Picking a worse player in your squad because he has a couple of highlight real plays - no thanks.

Coach believes he’ll be match fit ready in about 4 weeks.
Ronaldo due back in 4 weeks also.
This is katoas chance to really nail down his wing spot and have hiroti/Ronaldo/McDonald/Goodwin (if he comes here) all aiming for the other wing position.

Wait, wait - did you just say you would have Goodwin in the team over McDonald?

BIG decisions to be made in a few weeks .
Four wingers and only two spots .
A FIT Nene gets my vote for one of those, as he ticks all the boxes

Physically, the bloke has all the tools, mentally? He appears in the past to be way short of what’s required, here’s hoping he has it altogether.

Nene has a few weeks to prove at training he is better than Goodwin then.
Ronnie unfortunately can't compete for a bit as he will be rehabing so he is out of the contest.
But Bomber knows what he can get from Ronnie, so Nene will have either jumped him or he won't have, and Goodwin has the next few weeks to play well enough to hold the spot.

Love the Goodwin signing, but if we have him in our top 2 wingers we're in trouble.

Great depth for wing and centre though.
