Sullivan revealed in the middle of 2005 that he would be forced to leave the Sharks mid-contract (at the end of the season) in order to resolve financial problems related to a gambling addiction. The revelations came during an interview with Channel 9 after he won Man of the Match for his performance in Cronulla's win over Easts at Toyota Park. It was a disappointing end to an erratic, but sometimes brilliant, career at the club.
