I know he has a very cushy media gig but I'd be going all out to get him as an AC.

Apparently we've thrown $1.6m at Bellamy. If we don't get him, throw a chunk of that at Ennis.

A team of him and Fitzy would be frigging awesome. No room for players not putting in with those two in charge.

I like the way you're thinking HB , but like Sterlo he is on a great wicket doing media gigs
But dare to dream

I would love to see him back to. I wonder who made the decision not to keep him on in the first place? Crazy.

Cronulla’s 2016 grand final hero Michael Ennis is returning home to Shark Park after quitting his coaching consultancy role at the Parramatta Eels.

The Fox Sports star has accepted an offer from coach Craig Fitzgibbon to oversee pathways development at the club’s elite junior academy from 13 to 20-year-olds.

He started in the role last week.

“It felt so nice to have the Sharks shirt on again and driving through the gates,” Ennis said.

“I got really excited about it when Fitzy rang to return to the club that is so special to me.

“I’m really passionate about junior pathways and my job will be to ensure the Sharks youngsters have a healthy environment. I love watching and helping kids chasing their NRL dreams.”

Ennis is one of the game’s most highly regarded young coaches.

He helped Brad Arthur take the Eels to last year’s grand final and before that assisted Ricky Stuart take the Canberra Raiders to the 2019 decider.

“I spoke to Brad Arthur towards the end of last year,” Ennis said.

“I explained I couldn’t be a full-time assistant because of Fox Sports, where I’ve got a job that I love.

“I could only be there a couple of days a week as a consultant.

“So then Fitzy rang and I’m back at the Sharks.”

Ennis played 274 NRL games, 51 of those over two seasons at the Sharks, where he signed from the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Fitzgibbon says it’s a key signing for the Sharks: “I’m excited to have Mick on board.

“He was a premiership winning player here and since retiring he’s maintained a close involvement in the game through his Fox Sports commentary and as an NRL coaching consultant.

“Mick is a local resident with a keen interest in junior league and has a passion for coaching.

“Our young pathway and academy players will definitely benefit from his knowledge and experience.”

Brilliant news… great footy brain, will be great for the young kids really a great story. Bounced around a few clubs looking for opportunity and success whilst missing deciders through injury never to taste a premiership only to land in the shire and to snag the holy grail in his last ever game against the most successful team over last 15-20 years.

Probably a similar situation to Corey Parker. Left good money on the table as a player to set himself up in the media sooner.
I spoke to him just after he announced his retirement, basically said the above.
Had a good offer from Fox which he didnt want to pass up because he didnt know who else was going to retire the following year and was worried the Fox offer wouldn't be there.
Plus he has a family and wanted to devote himself to them

Begs the Question, is the NRL the Toughest most Punishing team sport there is? Guys like Ennis/Smith/Maloney/Gal not really big sized guys, unbelievable their longevity.

Well... Maloney didn't become an NRL player until 24, and I wouldn't put Gal in the same class as the others. He's much bigger than those other 3 guys, and superhuman.

Late last year I heard Brandon Smith on the radio. He said the biggest reason for moving to the Roosters was to play hooker full time, and the biggest reason he wants to play hooker is because playing as a running forward is much, much harder on his body. He says that he thinks he will be able to play for much longer, and be able to play more games per season, at hooker.

So yeah... while they make a lot of tackles, hookers, halves and fullbacks don't get bashed as often as everyone else.

It's also really funny that the two hookers you listed are 1) the best one ever, and 2) the most successful Sharks one ever. They are two blokes who almost never ran the ball... and in spite of this, the peanut gallery thinks our current hooker is no good because "he doesn't run enough".
