Official Mawene Hiroti

You think Hiroti is the problem 🤨?

Keen for you to expand more on this.
He's not a winger, he's absolutely horrible, can barely catch a ball and we were very lucky they decided to target Stonestreet with kicks.

He is, however, a fantastic centre.

I will personally escort this muppet on a Jetstar flight to Gold Coast tomorrow, if given the opportunity!

Weird to go after a player that did nothing wrong and was actually one of our better players

He is not the problem, but the fact we have to play him could be a part of it.

The team being in a position with injuries that you have to call upon depth players is rarely ideal but all the same Hiroti is solid and reliable and done a good strong job for us the last few years so I wouldn't even consider it a problem in this case

He is way down the list of things that need fixing, we had the same issues well before Katoa was injured and Hiroti came in

He’s fine to fill in for an occasional game, but if he’s playing week in, week out, you’ve just got a fringe first grader in your team who would strike zero fear into the opposition.

Filling in for the odd game is exactly what depth is for. Hiroti can't make Katoa's injury heal any quicker someone has to be played there. He's good enough to be a starter now though and do a reasonable job (especially @ centre)

Stonestreet is also a fringe first grader and he got destroyed so I guess he is also a problem and doesn't strike fear into the opposition and shouldn't be playing week in week out?

Lucky they targeted Stonestreet with kicks? Yes Sam pulled off 1 great leaping catch under pressure (that he should have earned a penalty for being interfered with) but when he actually ran the ball he got dragged back to the old Sydney Showground

Hiroti didn't have a problem with his carries, made the most metres of the Sharks and dude he had like 1 single error. His hands are alot better these days than his rookie years.

That doesn't matter when you are scared to catch the ball. Hiroti is horrible under the high ball, and its shown everytime someone kicks to his wing.

Why didn't Souths exploit it more though?

Hiroti is a centre first, backup winger second, we can't expect him to have all the winger stuff down pat like a regular starting winger but yes it's probably not the strongest part of his game

I can also say that Stonestreet being good under the high ball on the night doesn't matter because his carries went no where

Every player has their strengths and weaknesses and things to work on - doesn't invalidate Hiroti's strong runs

Do we want to put a rookie in there on the wing to partner another green player in Stonestreet? That's gunna be a problem too

Never said it does, doesn't make him a good winger. He's a fantastic centre, but a terrible winger.
