Sharks Junior Reps Selected For NSWCCC

Sharks Junior Reps Selected for NSWCCC
26/05/2010 11:04:10 AM

Hisense Sharks junior representatives Luke Pickerd and Daniel Moroko have both been selected in the under 18 NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Rugby League side.

The local juniors, from St. Patricks Sutherland and De La Salle Cronulla respectively, were named after a successful trial at St. Mary’s Stadium last week. After 2 days of fantastic schoolboys rugby league and 18 games over the 2 days, it came down to a very anxious wait for both the boys who were elated with their selection.

Pickerd was the SG Ball competition’s leading try scorer this season until an injury in round 8 against the Bulldogs forced him to withdraw from the most successful Sharks SG Ball side ever who finished as Minor Premiers.

Moroko also had an outstanding season for the black, white and blue, contributing well all season with a solid defensive and potent attacking game.

The Sharks would like to congratulate both players for not only their selection in the side, but also the sportsmanship and respect displayed over the trial period.

I hope Cronulla signs him as he is a great player. i remember playin against both these players and they were stand outs and are very good in defence in attack. in one game Pickerd scored 7 tries against our team and was basically unstopable

Pickerd is lightning i remember one of our centres who was pretty quick didnt even match him in pace and has great footwork and is very strong. ive been told benching 180kg.

Sharks Pickerd Selected For Australian Schoolboys

Sharks Pickerd Selected For Australian Schoolboys
19/07/2010 4:16:32 PM

Cronulla Sharks Junior Representative player of the year Luke Pickerd has been selected in the Australian Schoolboys team to tour France and the UK in November.

Pickerd, a local junior from St Patrick's College Sutherland, had a brilliant season playing in the black, white and blue and was rewarded for his outstanding and consistent performances.

After a year with the Dragons, Pickerd returned to Cronulla for a stellar season and was wrapped with his selection.

Pickerd helped the Sharks SG Ball side achieve the club's first ever Minor Premiership and was the competition's leading try scorer until an untimely injury forced his withdrawal from the side during the finals series.

Luke also represented the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges at the recent Australian under 18 Schoolboys Championships on the Gold Coast last week and is certain to be a player of the future.

"Luke certainly has a bright future in front of him," Sharks General Manager of Football Darren Mooney said.

"He has been rewarded for a superb season with the Sharks and the club would to like to congratulate him on his achievements."

Congrats to Luke, he dominated his age group and has a big future. We must look to juniors like him and Mills if we are to stay viable.

He'll be Gaz's replacement in 2014.

That why we need to identify our talent and secure them long term. We have fallen away in this department in recent years and we are now suffering because we cant lure players from other clubs. There is talent in the shire, we just have to secure it. Pickerd, Morkoko and Mills would form an awesome backline if they live up to their potential.

I am actually suprised more of our SG Ball team haven't been given a shot in the NYC comp. I know Rodney Mofo is on the bench but these boys were the minor premiers and only lost in the finals becuase of injuries.

Surely Pickerd is old enough to get a few games in the NYC isn't he ?

I've been wondering the same thing mate. He is an elite player in his age group who is about to represent his country. He can make the step up no doubt. The Mofo goes alright too.
