Official Liam Ison

I fully understand the softly softly approach given it’s been a long layoff already so extra week’s now pales insignificantly.
That said, re wind back to before first trial, he was named, doing interviews etc so I think it s safe yo say there was confidence he was right to go.

I wonder what happened, could be number of things?

Pushed it too much at the end, cramming in more km’s in the legs to prove he was ready?

Club not monitoring him correctly?

Wrong program?

Leg actually no good?

The simple line given was knee soreness, given I haven’t had a ACL injury before & have minimal knowledge, everything I’m saying is speculative.

It’s fair to say, even if he plays next week that’ll be 7-8 weeks after the first trial, makes you wonder if they (medical team) have much idea 😆

Yeah I don’t really see a need to rush him or provide regular updates. It was always going to be a rebuilding year for him with a very small chance he could pressure for NRL

Agree but it’d be ideal if we could get a look at him to see if we need to sign another FB of adequate quality or get a utility that can play FB but not ideal to play an entire season there.

Keep in mind he was playing Flegg earlier this year so temper the expectations as it’s still very early on for him. Hopefully it all just clicks for him.
Hopefully the rest of the team lay a platform for him. Its always tough to see a youngster get caught in a **** show

Ideally have like 20 looks at him, for both volume of work and conditioning reasons haha

Who is “we” specifically in this? Because I’m sure the people that matter in those decisions already have a fair bit to work off. If you meant us punters then our opinion doesn’t mean ****.

I can’t help but feel we must have something in the pipeline. There is no way we’re going all in on Ison for 2027.

NFI mate, when I say we, I meant club, I gotta hunch the Sharks club have a care factor of FA about us punters getting a decent look of him.
As it stands now, I agree, because of his injury we (the club) is probably a minimum of 12 months further back from where or what they wanted with theIr FB thinking.
As it stands now, they pretty much have to sign some cover, whether that be Will or whatever money they have or what they can create with our retention or choosing to let certain players go.
I’m guessing there is a reluctance on their part (the club) to sign or spend marquee money on a FB if they truly believe Ison to be that calibre of player, the extra tricky part now is, how much the ACL has stuffed him or put back his upward trajectory.

Happy to extend Kennedy for one more year (if he accepts)

I doubt they have a reluctance to sign or spend marquee money on a fullback, it’s just that a) we don’t have that money and b) there is no one to buy.

Potentially we do have money, there is lots of moving parts with so many off contract players.
There is nothing stopping us from allocating x amount of money to a FB & skimping in others areas (positions) with cheap replacements.
Not saying that’s what they’ll do but they can.
