Kevin Hogan shared the Sun Herald Player of the Year award with Denis Pittard (Souths) in 1971.

Hogan had led for the last 4 rounds of the competition, but could only manage one point in the last game while Pittard got two.

The prize was quite a decent sum in those days, and as the article said, "Hogan was on tenterhooks in the dressing room after the game wondering how many points Pittard had won at the Sports Ground."

The story continued: "Although Hogan and Pittard are five-eighths, their careers have taken two entirely different paths. Pittard is the established player, a Test and World Cup representative, while Hogan is a 'battler' who has made it to the top the hard way."
