Just pondering where this guy sits in regard to his development with us. After his Jets performance this year, he's clearly pretty close to regular grade. He may have some defensive deficiencies as most new outside backs do, but are they enough to keep him out of grade this year?

The real question comes in what to do with our off contract centres. If Kayal is just about ready, do we need to re-sign both Sifa and Jesse? Both are probably going to cost around 5-600k (assuming). If the answer is "play Talakai on the edge" do we end up letting Tieg go? Obviously it would be good to keep them all, but they are all starting quality and none will really thrive in a bench role.

Making a big decision now, say saving 400k on running Iro instead of Sifa/Jesse at centre. Could be a move that sets us up for a big 2024 signing.

Have at it.

I think we 100% need to re-sign Ramien, and he was quoted a couple of months ago saying they will be working on an extension - hopefully ready before the start of the season.

Also note that Iro is a development player, but the injury to Ikuvalu opens the door for him (or someone else). They have 3 outside backs on contracts outside the top 30 currently.

For 2023, I think they stick with Sifa to start the year at least, unless one of those 3 guys blows the doors off in pre-season. Beyond that, Iro may seem like he has the inside track right now, but I wouldn’t rule out a Ronnie move to the centres to bring in Stonestreet. Kid has wheels, and is definitely ready physically.

I think Sifa would make a perfect bench player tbh. It just comes down to whether he wants to accept that role long term, and whether the Sharks want to outbid other teams to keep him. I don’t see him as an 80 minute back rower. He can do it, but I think you lose some of that attacking impact if he is making 45 tackles a night.

I agree with all the above, cant really comment on Stonestreet however. On the bold part, I guess that's the issue I raised. I don't really see Sifa wanting to play that roll moving forward, unless he is paid well for it which itself bodes issues. If he doesn't, does that mean he's the most expendable? Seems crazy after he's had such a good year for us but it may be the case.

I guess you could try sign them all now, and if you end up playing Sifa off the bench so be it whilst all the positioning works itself out over the next year or two. Would just mean signing a few to shorter term extensions I guess. Would also mean less cash available if a big signing became available.

I think all you do is start him off as an edge back rower and then bring wilton on from the bench and then he plays the second stint in the middle. I think you then can more justify the price tag as well as get the impact from the bench later in the game.

I think you could alternately start Wilton and Nikora and bring Talakai to whichever edge you feel needs a work over.
Play him there approx 25 minute mark to 50 and then maybe get him on again for around last 10 either on an edge or middle

or we could just you know, leave talakai at centre where he was phenomenal this year
That would also be my preference. It was more a discussion about how Talakai, Ramien, Iro, Wilton and Nikora don't fit into 4 spots. With re-signings to be made they probably all will be eyeing a starting spot.

I'd start Iro in cup again, but not sure how long he'll be kept down there.

Nobody was saying that. The discussion was around "what would we do it Iro breaks out and becomes a legit NRL centre?". It's the off-season mate. We are allowed to explore hypotheticals.

iro will be our starting left centre next year, may mean a huge off season or whatever, but talakai will be the left edge backrower

Surely this change alone for yourself means this is a valid discussion.

nah i was told we werent keeping wade, i dont want iro at centre

fullback maybe
Yeah fair enough. Not a dig, like Burgess said just looking for some off-season discussion.

I can't really see him playing fullback. Does he have any junior experience there?

You could have if you'd set your alarm, it's too late now
