i live in banora point near tweed heads on the nsw & qld border, the afl has their auskicks program running at
my daughters school.
but nothing from the nrl, i think this is really bad as some of these kids may end up playing aussie rules instead
of the greatest game of all. i think the nrl should do more with kids at this primary school level as this when kids
are getting interested in sport.

What school is that? I grew up in that area and we had Rugby League in our high school as part of the normal sports curriculum (ie no input from the NRL was actually needed).

In my experience Auskick is run by a devoted parent or staff rep.

The AFL provide everything though.

I wonder, if one of us contacted the NRL and asked for help in setting up an in school program, what would the repsonse be?

Not being critical, genuinely curious.

In fact, so curious I might give it a go for over here!

I'll keep you posted

Kids will do/play Auskick just for something to do great way to get people interested in the game.
Now that we have the independent commision its time to get heavily involved in supporting junior rugby league.
The Sharks also need to get active every primary school in the shire should have a couple of players visit, talk to the kids sign some autographs and hand out a free entry ticket. This DOES get kids supporting our club as I have witnessed friends kids convert from the chooks (dads team) to the Sharkies because of this. I also think that players could go and help out local junior clubs by attending training sessions.

An email to NRL.com and I'm politely redirected to the One Community Donations Submission Form. Not sure if he misunderstood my email or if there is simply no program in place to promote junior rugby league.

The Donations Policy says that:

"Preference will be given to the following causes in the following order:

· Individuals who are involved in rugby league and have fallen on hard times
· Junior and Senior rugby league teams and clubs who have fallen on hard times (most are directed to the Monster Raffle)
· Nominated NRL & NRL Club charities"

Maybe he missed the point of my request, which was assistance in the promotion of rugby league in schools.

Anyway, I don't really fall into those categories so I'll just keep plugging away with my Sharks merch!

my daughters school is banora point primary school & yes the school does have a couple of rl teams.
but with the afl auskicks it appears the afl is doing more to win the kids over. the auskicks
program is being run as part of all kids sport program, so all the schools kids are involved with auskicks. were as
only kids playing in the schools ruguby teams are involved with league. as this school is near the border of both nsw &
qld i would have thought the nrl would be more involved with my daughters school than the afl

defs not. The whole 13 years I was at school I had auskick every year through primary school and I loved it. If I hadn't played league at the time or a mad supporter I would of been swayed towards AFL. Especially with the free ball and bag they used to give away.

I probs had 1 day in primary school where there were a couple of sharkies players and another in high shool which was a ARL coaching thing and was mainly focused on promoting gatorade.

If I was a kid that didn't have a sport AFL would be so tempting as it is really fun to play.

Really puts things in perspective doesn't it? I mean, the Rwandan genocide- storm in a teacup. The Gulags- what were all them ruskies complaining about? Josef Fritzl- why the fuss?

Gotta love your league.

Not to mention the 300 odd prisoners burnt to death in Honduras today - putting that in perspective?

Not important when round 1 is just a week away.

Total ineptitude on their part.

I wonder if an email to the Sharks might do any better. Who knows, it may be worth a try? It could help get new supporters in Fiji and possibly mean the difference between a future up and comer from Fiji choosing to play with us or someone else.

Being quite serious, I think I might find out when the Sharks trials for new players are on later this year and I'll finance a few plane tickets for these guys.

There is so much talent here that needs a little focus, direction and purpose.

None of my primary or secondary schools had AusKick or any formal RL programs.

We did play cricket and football and rugby though.
