Was handed a **** sandwich. We got key injuries and suspensions, will be a miracle if we get to 8th. Candidate for Dally M Coach of the yr runner up, IMHO.

May as well give it to Fitzy or Bomber... Hannay is the epitome of the caretaker coach. What we're seeing is more a mix of continuing things that were already put in place and players looking to their futures. Nothing more

I want this guy gone next year as has no confidence. Heard him on TV the other day saying that he did not believe we had a top 8 side when he took over. He must be as boring as bat **** in the sheds if he has no expectations and been rubbing off on our team.

You can look at this the other way too
Didn’t believe we were a top 8 side but him and the players worked hard to correct that.
I doubt he was saying he thought the team was **** and didn't care and still does and doesn’t care, or that he thought we’d finish outside finals and it is purely a surprise to him we may not

he hasn't coached well though mate and has shown many times to be out of his depth. JMO got handed a **** sandwich, had constant injuries and suspensions and was inexperienced but was never in many discussions for coach of the year type honours

Improvement in players was already there to see while JMO was here early season before Cactus took over so I doubt Cacty has done much development wise with players either. though most players havn't really gone backwards under him either. we are just lucky it's such a terrible comp, look at where our wins came from. against pleb teams or good teams decimated by injury (panthers)

our second half performances are a bad meme and our defense poor for the most part

we have achieved little of note and if we scrape into the 8 look at the horrendous teams we get there over and it will likely be on a negative F/A with a 10W 14L record which is less about the efforts and success of our season and more about the flaw that is the top 8 system letting mediocre teams play finals
diabolical

credit to Hannay for the wins we did get, keeping the boys and club together and the odd moment of inspiration but he is still a bottom tier coach who I would prob only have over Walters or Barrett. poor opposition and some exceptional backline talent in the sharks have saved him

best wishers to him back in an AC role next season where he belongs and where he wants to be - at least he is honest and has no delusions about his ability as a head coach

Credit where credits due. Regardless of what people feel his coaching ability is (and the standard of the comp), he has still got within one game of finals.

We lost 4 games we should have won (literally lost in last few mins to weaker teams). That is on the players.

Also keep in mind he had no time to prepare for the role. Was simply thrown the role mid week in round 3 or 4 and would have been dealing with the fallout of JMo with the players, board and media etc.

Also had about 30% salary cap on the sidelines for most of the year.

I'm glad Fitz has kept in on for next year. Even if just a year he will gain a lot of experience working with the likes of Fitz and Price.

One for the stat guys. How much of our salary cap was out for how long, or percentage of the cap was our average. We’ve had no Dugan, Fifita, SJ, Moylan and Graham for the most part. Our 5 highest paid players are also our most unreliable.

He’s done a remarkable job, but more so, the boys have done a remarkable job. We’ve got a close bunch of players who turn up for each other. With the extra help and steady guidance, they are going to go far

to keep it really simple if we say Dugan, Fifita, SJ, Moylan all 800k and whats the cap this year, 9.2? That's 3.2m out of 9.2m (everything is down 6% this year right?) or 35% if cap
Moylan played 15 (give him one for next week)
SJ played 10
Dugan played 8
Fifita played 6

out of 24 games possible each, a total eligible 96 games, they played total 40%. Obviously those players often played at different times but to generalise it 60% of the season we were 1/3 under the cap which is pretty massive.

Wade being on a touch less and playing more than all bar Moylan makes it about 58% of games we had 42% of our cap out. Someone could probably math this out but on a given week we were likely around 25% under the cap available players on average.
(technically Fifi was available but not selected quite a few times, I'm gunna count that against him still)

I think those numbers are right-ish, I've had a few JDs

The fact you were able to understand me, let alone attempt the math is a win in my eyes.

On top of that, it was our bench last year that really brought impact, but both talakai and especially hunt have been missing for good chunks of the season. Our wingers were awsome last year and theyve both been out for long stints. We just offloaded our halfback since 2016. Changed coach, no home ground, covid…

Its a bloody miracle if we get to the finals this year.

Always interesting to read these sorts of stats mate, cheers.

Mate you winner if there's a corrosion that can be drawn between unavailable player value and season results. Most teams deal with it to varying degrees, but maybe there's a tipping point where the value starts to be a key factor.

If you've got a spare minute that is mate. Cheers.

He might very well be right if we don't make the 8. Nothing wrong with being honest and if you don't have a realistic view of your team then you're screwed.

I don't get all the criticism of the bloke. He joined us in November, was HC in April and has done a pretty good job if you ask me considering the injuries and other things going on. For an interim HC he gets absolutely gets a pass mark. Do I want him as our HC going forward, no - but guess what he's not going to be. He's going back to being a AC next year. He hasn't been perfect this year but not my rookie coaches are. Fitz isn't going to be perfect in his first year.

Not taking the 2 was obviously a ****in stupid decision but that's on our playing roster too, they should had the leadership to over call that. Also he prob wasn't expecting Tracey to kick it on tackle 2 for a repeat set.

I'm glad he's sticking around. it might only be for next year but it'll help the transition for the new coaches.

I still harbour some suspicions that he was covering up for someone with this. No proof at all mind you but I just have this feeling.

I thought that initially when he said it in the presser, he was being the fall guy. Can only go off what we've been told so he cops the blame... ah **** it throw Woods in there too!

Who?

You think he wanted to kick it and Woods overcalled him and they both lied about it afterwards?
