Man I still can't believe this, I cannot begin to imagine what his family are going through.

Trophy tribute for Jon Mannah

DETERMINED to ensure Jon Mannah's inspiration and passion for rugby league lives on, NRL clubs Cronulla and Parramatta are set to put their rivalry aside by honouring the 23-year-old when they meet this season.

As the rugby league community rallies to support the Mannah family following the passing of Jon to cancer last Friday, Eels and Sharks officials have spoken about the prospect of playing for the Jon Mannah trophy each year, beginning with their Round 5 match in April.

Although any tribute plans are yet to be determined, another option is that proceeds from the match be distributed to a cancer charity.

A Parramatta Eels junior, Mannah moved to the Sharks in 2009 and played 24 NRL matches for the club.

"I've been sitting here thinking about ways we can pay tribute to such an inspirational person, which Jonny was," Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan said.

"I think it would be fitting that both clubs recognise his love for the game, and whether that be a trophy when we play or something else, so be it."

New Eels coach Ricky Stuart added: "I'd support anything that allows us to never forget the terrific person Jonny was."

Twitter tributes to 'great bloke'

Saddened Cronulla chairman Damien Irvine said he would discuss tribute options with the Sharks board in due course. Mannah is close to the heart of both clubs.

"It's obviously a very tough time, so I'd be reluctant to talk about any plans at this stage, but I hope we can do something that recognises Jonny's amazing attitude towards life and the game of rugby league," Irvine said.

Parramatta chief executive Ken Edwards said it was important that both clubs - and the entire rugby league community - remembered Mannah for his contribution to the game and also those around him.

"Certainly, he had an impact on so many people," Edwards said. "We want to try to honour that memory.

"We'll sit down when the time is right to organise something that reflects what the game meant to Jon."

I was at the All Stars game in Brisbane last night. I got to my seat at the beginning of the national anthem, at the conclusion the ground announcer's voice came over the Suncorp Stadium speakers. I have been out of the loop the last few weeks due to certain life circumstances. When I heard that we were observing a moments silence due to the passing of Jon Mannah I was in shock. I cannot recall the kick off or anything that happened in the first 10 minutes of the game. I just kept picturing Jon's smiling face and remembering what a great guy he was. I'll sadly miss him as I was always looking forward to the day when I saw the big bloke running on to an NRL pitch again no matter which clubs colours he was wearing. Goobye Jon, the sport and culture of Rugby League will miss you.

I'll admit mate when I first heard the news of his passing that morning I was in shock also. Couldn't believe someone could stay so positive and nice with such a burden.

I also got emotional when I read what his last words were.

I really hope they go through with the Jon Mannah shield/trophy.
